Cedar Grove Friday Flash
October 1, 2021
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
This Wednesday, October 6, we will begin Pink Out Wednesdays every Wednesday of this month in honor of our teachers who have battled breast cancer. We have made it a school tradition each year to wear pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. We would love to have our students join us in wearing pink!
At our Back to School Night, you may recall that information was shared with parents about our Leader in Me curriculum, which helps students develop leadership skills to prepare for the college, career and life-readiness skills necessary to thrive in the 21st century. It is a whole-school program highlighting leadership, culture and academics. Parents were asked to provide input through a survey that was also shared with you at Back to School Night. We want to thank you if you already completed this survey, but we are also asking that if you did not have a chance to do so, we really need input from as many parents as possible, as this will drive our goals for this school year. The links for the survey are below, and we ask that you please take a few minutes to complete it. Thank you.
This past Wednesday, we began weekly Covid testing for the students of parents who opted for the testing. We received a list of the students from our MCPS central office, but we are also hearing from some parents that they would like their child tested. If your child was not tested, but you would like to have your child included in future testing, please contact Mr. Derby so that your child is added to the list of student participants. The testing process went smoothly, and we are happy to share that the health technicians who conducted the testing stated that our school and students were the best that they have seen over all the schools they visited. We are so proud of the children for doing such a great job!
Please save the date of October 13 for our Welcome Back to School Picnic! We missed having this time together last year, and we are looking forward to spending time reconnecting and visiting with one another. The picnic is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Please Click here for all the wonderful details (there are three sign ups, so make sure you check those out)! We hope to see you there!
As a reminder, students in Grades 4 and 5 will take the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) in English Language Arts and Math the mornings of October 4, 5, and 6. Please make sure your child has plenty of sleep and a good breakfast for each of these mornings.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mr. Derby and Mrs. German

Substitute Teachers Needed!
MCPS is seeking substitute teachers! Substitute teaching is an excellent way to learn about our schools while allowing principals and teachers to get to know you. To qualify as a substitute teacher, each applicant must present proof of the completion of the minimum of an associate's degree or 60 college credits from an accredited institution.
Substitute teachers are temporary employees and are on an on call basis. An automated substitute calling system helps you manage your work schedule by allowing you to call at any time, day or night, to find jobs. This system is telephone and internet accessible. The system uses your subject area and location preferences to offer you jobs on the days you have selected and allows you to change the days you work.
Substitute Teacher Rates: Daily hourly rate of pay $18.79- Long Term rate $26.81.
If you hold a valid Maryland professional eligibility certificate or standard advanced professional certificate, the daily hourly rate of pay is $19.97-Long Term rate $28.45. In order to qualify for this higher rate of pay, you must submit a copy of your valid Maryland certificate.
