The Pelham Press

May 7, 2021

Dear Families,

We had plenty excitement on campus in the realm of construction this week; we got to see a cement mixer, a crane, and the large tent for Town Meeting going up! We wrapped up the week with a sun-soaked Wacky Hair/Hat Day today.

Thank you for the thoughtful cards, flowers, and beautiful lunch in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week! This has been a unique year to be an educator and we are so grateful for the support of our wonderful Pelham families!

I recently listened to an episode of Brene Brown's "Unlocking Us" podcast featuring a conversation with Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey (linked below). The podcast delves into research around Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). It prompts us to shift our mindset and recognize the ways in which early trauma can shape how people engage with the world. The content of the discussion aligns with our staff's emotional resilience professional learning this year and reflects our intention to infuse our teaching with trauma-informed practices.

MCAS testing begins on Tuesday for students in grades 3-6. The schedule is linked below. Testing will begin at 10:00 AM on those days. I have received information from some families that they would like to opt-out of MCAS testing this year. If that is your family's preference, please send me a note or email before 9:00 AM on the first day of your child's testing.

Read on for updates from the main office. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to support your family.

Best,

Leigh
