Celebration of the Arts Day
Come and join us for Middlebrook’s Celebration of the Arts Day! On Friday, June 3, students will experience different Broadway Musicals as part of our theme which is “Celebrating Our Culture and History Through the Performing Arts.” They will participate in different arts and crafts workshops, literacy lessons and performing workshops centered around musicals including The Lion King, Aladdin, Mary Poppins, Newsies, In the Heights and Hamilton. The day will be capped with assemblies for K-2 and 3-5 featuring Laurel Harris, star of Wicked and several other Broadway musicals! In order to make the workshops possible, we need your help! Please consider volunteering some time during the day for the different workshops. Times vary by grade level and class and can be found on the sign up genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0b4da4af2fa6f94-celebration Even if you don’t have a student in a grade level, we would love your help! Please reach out to Sara Hoefer sara.hoefer@yahoo.com with questions.
Students in Grades K-5 are completing our district trimester 3 iReady testing. Again, we hope students will not be absent during the testing period, except for illness, and that they continue to strive to do their very best!
Please continue to:
- Have your child arrive to school on time
- Provide your child with a nutritious breakfast
- Set a healthy routine to ensure your child gets plenty of sleep
We all do better when we are well rested, well fed and prepared for the day. Your partnership in ensuring your child's success makes a huge difference in their performance and we thank you!
As always, we continue to strive to make Middlebrook School the best that it can be for our students, staff and parent community. Please take a moment to complete our

One School One Book update
Today we finished The Wild Robot. There are so many wonderful themes for discussion in this story including family, cooperation, and acceptance. Roz has come alive on her island home. She is determined to find her way back to her family and friends after getting the repairs needed by her makers. Our special copies include a note from the author/illustrator and a behind-the-scenes look at his sketches. One class remarked, "we liked how the chapters were short and exciting." They described the book as, "outstanding, amazing, awesome, great, and super!".

Kindergarten STEM “chick habitat” project
Kindergarteners worked in teams to design and build a safe play area for the chicks. They discussed the type of building materials, the design (size, shape) and which materials worked best to keep the chicks safe in the enclosure.
2nd grade Mrs. Reding
3rd Grade Mrs. Lopez
Students in Grade 3 have been working on informational writing. They chose topics based on whether or not they were an expert. Students chose topics such as karate, chess, soccer, dogs, The Maritime Aquarium and more!
They brainstormed, planned their writing pieces using a graphic organizer and wrote a draft of their essay. Students used facts about their topics to write an introduction, two main idea paragraphs and a conclusion. After editing and revising with peers, they began to publish their writing using a program called Book Creator. They are in the process of creating a digital copy of their nonfiction book.
