SMES Saints Scoop
Updates and Reminders: January 2, 2022
Dear SMES Families,
I hope each of you had a restful and happy holiday break. I am truly looking forward to our continued partnership in this new year.
As we approach the return to school, please continue to monitor your student(s)' health and if they are not feeling well please do not send them. Stay in contact with our school nurse, Tracy Batley (tbatley@talbotschools.org), if they are exhibiting COVID symptoms or if they were exposed to a positive case. Their absences will be excused. This, along with mask wearing, is how we can stop the spread in our schools. Continue to remind your student(s) at home about the importance of correct mask wearing at school. We really appreciate your help in making our return to school safe for all.
Sincerely,
Dr. Bullock, Proud SMES Principal

Dear TCPS Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you have had a restful, safe holiday break and were able to enjoy time with family and friends.
While we are aware that there has been a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in our community over the last week, we will return to school on Monday, 1/3/22 with full in-person learning. We will continue enforcing the safety protocols that were already in place, monitoring COVID case data with our local health department, and communicating any changes in a timely manner.
It is important to note that the Maryland State Department of Education also issued a statement reiterating the expectation that all school districts remain open for in-person learning, with support for temporary transitions to virtual learning on a case-by-case basis.
We know that in-person learning is the best option to meet our students’ academic and social-emotional needs. We also understand the pandemic is not over, and we must remain vigilant in our efforts to keep our communities safe. If your student has been exposed to COVID-19 during the break, please notify the school prior to their return in order to receive instructions regarding quarantine and/or testing, and please do not send children to school if they are unwell.
I appreciate your understanding and support as we remain hopeful for brighter days in 2022!
Kelly L. Griffith, Ed.D.
Superintendent
