CALF AND LAMB DAY
What a fabulous Community Day!! It was great to see so many families and friends of our school at this annual event. We would like to thank: The PTA for their organisation and attention to detail. The Fundraising Committee for the BBQ. Our wonderful judges! Taranaki Vets for the ribbons and ADM for sponsoring all of the meat for our Calf & Lamb Day bbq and some hats and beanies for our first place getters for 2019! We really appreciate your support!!!
Thank you also to those parents that allowed and encouraged their children to rear a calf or lamb.
Some changes were made to the way we organise calf and lamb day, in particular the calves. The PTA will be having a meeting soon so any feedback would be really appreciated to assist with future planning.

SUNHATS AT SCHOOL
Just a reminder that everyone is expected to wear a bucket hat at school in Term 4. We encourage children to keep their hats at school and to make sure that they are named. We have some sun block at school, however we encourage parents to put sunblock on their children at home before they come to school. Toko School sunhats can be purchased from the office for $14.00. If your child does not have a bucket hat, they will have to sIt out on the deck by Rooms 1 and 2. No excuses.

Road Relay
We had 3 teams competing in this event on Monday at Pukekura Park. The event involved a team of 4 runners, each running a 1.5km lap around Pukekura Park, racing against schools from throughout Taranaki. All of the children involved really enjoyed the day and well done to our Toko 1 Girls team who finished 3rd. Runners in that team were Lexi , Amy , Mackenzie and Pippa, great work girls.

What is Minecraft: Education Edition?
Minecraft Education Edition
Recently the Ministry of Education provided all New Zealand schools with access to Minecraft Education to support transformative teaching and learning. We have taken them up on this offer and have made this available to our teachers and students. Some classes have begun using this teaching tool this year and others may start next year. Below is some information around Minecraft Education.
What is Minecraft Education Edition?
Minecraft: Education Edition is a rich, open collaboration and learning platform that supports curriculum-based learning while encouraging students to think for themselves and collaborate with peers to transform their learning.
What are the benefits of using Minecraft Education?
Builds skills around particular subject such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), history, geography or coding.
• Supports students to engage in virtual learning experiences that directly link and expand on the
subjects being taught in the classroom.
• Teaches students to be ‘digital citizens’ through the use of an online system where they need to work together to solve problems.
• Promotes creativity, problem solving and critical thinking.
• Allows students to actively collaborate with their classmates on school work.
• Helps students build working relationships with each other.
• Promotes knowledge sharing as students guide each other on how to perform tasks.
How is this different to my child playing Minecraft at home?
* The Education Edition of Minecraft has been specifically created to be used in educational settings.
* A clear learning objective is required for successful experiences in Minecraft: Education Edition.
* Access to the game is teacher-led with teachers having access to additional functionality that allows
them to control the world - including locking down areas and the ability to move student avatars.
Is my child safe using Minecraft Education?
Access to Minecraft: Education Edition is through the student’s username and password.
Outside server access has been completely removed from the game, ensuring that the connections students can make in Minecraft: Education Edition are only with their own class or school.
If you have any questions or queries about any of this, please feel free to contact Mrs Hancock.
