PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Our year is off and running. The students are learning expectations and practicing them all throughout the school. Teachers and staff are catching kids following expectations and rewarding them with PAWS. The PAWS raffle buckets have started and kids are earning rewards like sitting in the principal's chair for the day and an extra class recess.

The office is busy preparing for Grandparent's Day. Be sure you talk to grandma and grandpa to see if they will be attending our big event this year. We love having them all visit. So many smiling faces.

Please be sure that you are communicating with your child's teacher about any questions you have. Ask about classwork or behavior...stay informed. We are here to work together to educate your child.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ABRAMS?

Notes from the Office

Grandparent’s Day is October 5th. . Once again this year each grade will have a specific time set up for classroom visits and lunch. Grandparents should wait in the lobby or library. They will be escorted to the proper classroom at the appropriate time. This has been a great help in making the day go smoothly for everyone. Grandparents with more than one grandchild, who have extra time between room visits are welcome to stop in the library to read a paper or even go out for recess!

A chairperson for our Scholastic Book Fair will be in the lobby on Grandparent’s Day selling gift certificates to use on the day of the Book Fair, October 23rd. With so many titles to choose from, your grandchild will be thrilled with your gift of a new book or two, on you! The certificates can be purchased by check or cash only made out to Abrams CPTO.

New Abrams Staff

Melissa Nicholson-Taher, Inc. Kitchen Staff

Melissa joins our team this year but has been a familiar face as a frequent flyer volunteer for many years! Her husband Tony, and children Hannah and Hank can be seen helping her with her many joys in life. Some of Melissa's favorite things are Football (green and gold), cooking, flowers, fishing, and hunting. When not at school she enjoys hanging out with her kids, sleeping in late, and staying in her pajamas. Her hobbies include gardening, taking care of their little pig and chicken farm, running-currently training for her first half marathon and her favorite foods include SUSHI, bacon and eggs, berries, cashews, and bubbly cherry water. MOST treasured memories are her wedding and the day her kids were born but a fun memory she will not forget is the day she got to meet Jordy Nelson. Please welcome Melissa to the Abrams Team when you see her in the halls or in the lunch room. Her smile will brighten anyone's day.

Jodi Duggan-Taher, Inc. Kitchen Staff

Jodi is new to our team this year! She joins our team with a full family to back her complete with her high school sweetheart and husband of 31 years--John, and children Donovan (32), Dustin (30), Autumn (26), and John-David (JD)- (24). If you were to view Jodi through her family's eyes you would see a woman who enjoys sunny days, warm beaches, chocolate ice cream, Green Bay Packers, Mickey Mouse, and most of all taking care of her grandchildren Koda who is 5 and Elsa who is 1 1/2. In her free time she can be caught sipping a Pepsi Max and enjoying a Pizza or Pasta dish while bowling, reading her favorite book, studying genealogy, or enjoying Fantasy Football. Her favorite memory is of her sitting on her Grandma's lap rocking in her recliner as she talked with her about collecting stamps and having her show her books she created on genealogy. It is where her love for history and family research began. She was only 11 years old. If you would like to get to know her a little more, please ask her about one of her "funniest stories ever" about paintball. You won't be disappointed and it will be a great way to welcome her aboard!

Classroom Chatter

Mrs. Ingram’s class worked hard the first week of school to brainstorm ways that they will follow the PAWS expectations. This group created the Show Respect poster.

Nurses Knowledge

Medication: If your child is going to bring medication to school, this includes Tylenol, ibuprofen, antacids, cold medicine, etc.…please send it in the original package and please remember to fill out the medication consent form in the office. This helps the office staff know when to distribute the medicine and the dosage needed for that child. Thanks!

Oconto County Public Health will visit Abrams Elementary School on Friday 10/19/18 to offer FREE flu shots to all students in Early Childhood (EC)-5th grade.

If your child did not bring the consent forms home for the FREE flu shots, go to www.ocph.info to download a form and find more information on the flu shot.

CDC recommends a flu shot for everyone 6 months and older. Flu is not just a bad cold; it’s a serious illness that can lead to pneumonia and other complications. The symptoms can last for up to two weeks and include: fever, cough, sore throat, headache, severe body aches, chills, runny or stuffy nose, extreme exhaustion, and sometimes in children diarrhea and vomiting. While your child may be nervous to receive a shot at school, Oconto County Public Health staff will work together to make your child as comfortable as possible.

Getting the flu shot every year is your best protection against the flu! You can also stay healthy by washing your hands frequently, covering your cough and staying home when you are sick. Please call Oconto County Public Health with questions at 920-834-7000.
