STANWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
FAMILY UPDATE FOR WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 13, 2021
SHS VISION STATEMENT
Stanwood Spartans are united in cultivating character, modeling respect, teaching leadership and connecting to community.
It has been exciting to see students and staff use the new building and various fields. We look forward to when we can open the new school for community tours. Until then, we will feature pictures in our weekly newsletter.
REMINDER: STUDENT DROP OFF/PICK UP
Student drop off and pick up is at the front of the school off of 272nd St. You can exit back the way you enter or you can drive on through and exit out of the "Ag lot" onto 72nd Ave.
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to the new drop off and pick up area.
The staff parking lot (closest to McDonald's) is for bus parking and staff parking only. Please don't use that lot as a drop off/pick up area.
NEW: DISTRICT CONNECTIVITY SURVEY
In an effort to ensure that all students and families have internet access for extended learning opportunities and off-site learning occurrences, please respond to the following survey. This survey will help inform us of resource needs.
UPDATE: COVID REMINDER
As we return from summer break and resume in-person learning we are all "relearning our boundaries", including distancing and consistent mask wearing. This is a reminder that masks must be a manufactured paper mask or a tightly woven, two-layer fabric mask, worn over the mouth and nose. If water droplets could readily flow through a mask, it is not a sufficient barrier. The following link provides more information about selecting an appropriate face covering.
Families: Please remember that if anyone in your household has a cough or fever or if anyone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19, you need to keep your student home and contact your school. If someone in your household is waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test, all unvaccinated students need to stay home. Finally, if your student has been around anyone who later tests positive for COVID, the student needs to stay home until being cleared by the school nurse. Thank you all for doing your part!
NEW: REMINDERS FROM THE OFFICE
- Students need to bring their ASB cards to athletic events. We will not accept a picture of the card.
- Students should bring their chrome books and chargers to school every day. The best plan would be for students to charge their chrome books every night.
- The office will take money from students before school, at lunch, and after school. The cut off after school for this week is 2:30 p.m.
- Students are not supposed to have food delivered to the school. Students should either get a free meal in the kitchen or bring lunch with them.
- We are postponing the practice of bus passes for the time being. Every effort is being made to ensure buses are safe and not overcrowded for students assigned to them.
NEW: CURRICULUM NIGHT CANCELLED
NEW: PICTURE DAY
We will have a makeup picture day on Tuesday, September 14th, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students need to listen to the announcements as to when to report to the upper north gym to get their photo taken.
All students are required to get their photo taken.

NEW: YMCA TEEN PROGRAMS
Below are the youth clubs and events that will be happening at the YMCA! All students are welcome to join. A YMCA membership is required for students to be within the YMCA facility. If membership is a barrier, please speak to someone at the front desk at the YMCA.
Youth and Government
MISSION: Youth & Government is dedicated to teens. For over 70 years the YMCA has empowered teens to find their voice and develop the skills needed to fulfill their potential.
Strengthen Communities
The future success of our communities' rests in the hands of the next generation. By nurturing innovation, fostering a sense of responsibility, and building leadership skills we ensure our future leaders will be active and engaged servant leaders.
Empower Teens
Y&G teens are leaders in their communities. They sit on boards, volunteer in schools, and educate their friends and neighbors about local issues. They know they have a voice and understand the importance of sharing their opinions and ideas.
Discuss Healthy Alternatives
Teens in Y&G programs look at how laws and public policy effect the health and well being of citizens. From issues surrounding neighborhood sidewalks to the national healthcare debate, teens discuss alternatives and solutions to some of the largest issues facing community health in our state and nation
E-SPORTS
Electronic Sports, or Esports, takes on the form of organized, multiplayer online video game competitions and is one of the fastest growing trends for youth engagement. Through the Y’s Esports program, youth are welcome to be who they are, excel at what they love, and develop the social, strategic and problem-solving skills necessary to grow into thriving adults all in a safe, moderated and inclusive environment. In-Person STEM based curriculum with a focus on Social Emotional Learning, Leadership, Teamwork, and Healthy Living.
TEEN CENTER
The Stanwood Teen Center will be open Monday-Friday from 2:30-6:00 p.m. Each day will have two different activities that cover everything from STEAM, to music, to art, to 3-D modeling/printing and more. Our main goal is for this to be a safe space for teens to find support for school and anything life throws their way, connect with others, be creative, and get in touch with who they are in a supportive, structured environment.
REMINDER: SCHEDULE CHANGES
Students can submit a schedule change form if they want a class switched. However, we don't change schedules based on lunch or to be with friends.
Students can find the form online on our website. Students can request a schedule change only during the first 10 days of the semester.
UPDATE: The final day to submit a schedule change is Thursday, September 16th.
