Principal's Notes
Check out our first group of Magnificent Meerkats! These 23 students were nominated by staff and students with very specific reasons given in the nominations. These students personify Cole School's motto - Dream Big, Dare Greatly, and Shine Brightly, and they consistently show expected and positive behaviors. Their names were shared over the announcement system on Thursday morning and they heard the specific reasons why they were each nominated before we took this picture. Students can be nominated more than once and there is no limit to the number of nominees each week. Hopefully, we'll see the number of Magnificent Meerkats grow each week!

We'll be celebrating National School Counseling Week and our amazing school counselor, Mrs. Walsh, and our phenomenal school psychologist, Dr. Ciolkosz next week. If your child signs up to have lunches with Mrs. Walsh or sees either Mrs. Walsh or Dr. C. regularly, it would be a great time for them to thank them for their work with a card.
School counselors are actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; for working in a partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world; for focusing on positive ways to enhance students’ academic and social/emotional development; and working with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves. School counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in school counseling. School psychologists support students' learning and mental and behavioral health, promote positive and inclusive school climates, serve on school safety and crisis teams, and collaborate with families, teachers, and administrators to improve student outcomes. The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the total educational program.

Specialists' Scoop
With great anticipation and excitement we started our Gymnastics Unit! While working on flexibility, balance, and strength students practiced rolls, weight on hands, and jumps. Students also had an opportunity to use one of three climbing ropes, two of the balance beans, and one parallel bars.
Kindergarteners tried their hand at beginning library skills this week with mobile centers. They had fun practicing ways of sorting, ordering, and organizing shapes, letters, numbers, and symbols.

HAVE USED OR UNWANTED MARKERS, PENS, WOODEN OR MECHANICAL PENCILS?
Last year the Norwell Recycling and Sustainability Committee successfully initiated a project to recycle crayons and continues to collect used or unwanted crayons. We are now adding markers, pens, and wooden and mechanical pencils to our collections for recycling. We are working in partnership with Staples, which has recently added them to their list of materials that can be recycled.
