Happy New Year!

Ugh. What do I say here that is quick, not too cliched, and moves this newsletter along to the highlights for January? What's my goal with this? To say, hey, don't forget about being a host family, come to the potluck, and here are a few things you may want to be aware of this January.

Family Game Day & Potluck

  • Sat., Jan. 16
  • 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Student Center

The Oxford College Host Family Program is kicking off the new year with a family game day and potluck lunch. Bring your favorite board games, potluck dish, and winning-est game face. Let us know you're coming by Wednesday, January 13th, by responding to the Evite invitation sent to you by Christine Richardson in December. Note, the Evite may have landed in your email junk folder.

What's Coming Up?...

Classes begin this semester on Tuesday, January 12.

The start of the spring semester is the time to apply for next year's student leader positions. Applications for several positions including iMentors, PALs, and Residence Assistants are available now and due in February. Encourage your students to consider applying to become a student leader in their sophomore year. Offer to review their resume or application essay, and support their leadership development.

The ISP office resumes Friday van service on Friday, January 15. The service provides free transportation to local area destinations between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Classes will not be held on Monday, January 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This 3-day weekend would be a great opportunity to invite your student to join you and your family for a day of service or to learn about the struggle for civil rights in the U.S. and around the world at the Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Oxford College's Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration takes place on Tuesday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Old Church. Campus and community members are encouraged to attend.
