Vandegrift HS COVID Update

November 25, 2020

Dear Vandegrift High School families,

Vandegrift High School will cancel in-person learning Nov. 30, 2020 - Dec. 6, 2020, due to increased cases of COVID-19. After working with Austin Public Health (APH) and placing several VHS students and staff in quarantine, we made this decision in the best interest of our students, staff, teachers, and community.

The building closure includes all athletics, fine arts, and extracurricular activities. We will work with our coaches, directors, and program sponsors to communicate with students about changes to our schedules.

During the Thanksgiving break, our custodial teams continued to work and clean the building. We will ensure the facility is properly sanitized and ready for students to return. We anticipate being able to return to in-person learning and student activities starting Dec. 7, 2020.

We expect students to log in for their first period classes on Monday, November 30, based on the teachers’ directions.

While all VHS students are in virtual learning, we will offer full meal service at Canyon Ridge and Four Points middle schools. Please utilize the Nutrislice web or mobile app to place breakfast and lunch orders ahead of pickup.

While students and visitors will not be allowed in the buildings during this closure, our staff will have the option to either work from home or work from the building utilizing strict protocols and distancing.

Leander ISD and APH continue to work together to track, trace, and take action to minimize the spread of COVID-19 across all schools.

We know this pandemic presents many difficult and challenging decisions for everyone in our community (parents and educators alike). The staff of Vandegrift High School remains committed to working together to provide the safest and best possible school experience for our students and staff.

As always, we appreciate your support and your partnership. Please take care of yourself and stay well.

Respectfully,

Charlie Little

Principal
