Letter from Ms. Smith
Hello Parents and Families!
I hope that you are ready for a great long weekend! I wanted to take a quick moment to remind you about how important you are as the grown ups in the house. Parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or any other title that you might be called, those titles are irrelevant really. If a child lives with you because you are raising them, then this message is for you!
Recently I shared a "bucket list" item with some special people. My item was to see Rod Stewart in concert, and those folks made it happen for me. I don't listen to Rod Stewart any more, but I was raised on that music. That music holds memories riding in the car with my mom. I knew every word because we would sing together and laugh. This week I got to take my mom to a Rod Stewart concert. I was able to sing and laugh with her which we haven't done since I was a kid.
I am sure that you are wondering why I shared that. Here is why:
You are your child's most influential person right now. During these early years, they like your music, activities, and so much more. Starting in about 5th grade, kids transition to having their friend group be the most influential people in their lives. I wanted to take a moment to remind you to make those memories. Even more importantly, to remind you that you are the most important person in their little lives. You matter and you are molding the little hearts and minds that will one day lead, create, and grow another generation. What you do today matters.
Our work at the school is important, but you have the hardest and most important job on the planet. You are raising young people. It takes a village, and we will work together to create happy and connected young adults. That is our end game as parents and as a school. As a mom, I often get lost in the craziness of work and the kids' schedules, and I sometimes take it for granted. I think that is human nature, but while you are reading this I hope you can reflect and soak in your importance and that we have your back here at Hembree!
Have a great LONG weekend. We don't have school Monday or Tuesday. Students will need to do the activities listed below. That means you have extra opportunities to make memories.
We will see you all on Wednesday!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith
