MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LAMBERT
Dear Mariano Castro Parents,
The February break is coming up on February 20-24 and as always breaks are a great time to also plan some quality family time that isn't possible when school is in session. During this break, I ask that you talk to your children about their goals and dreams for the future as well as their goals for this school year. Research has shown that students who have goals are much more likely to succeed than students who do not talk about their goals.
Please also have your child read anything interesting to them, every day. News, children's magazines, novels, non-fiction - anything of their choice!
Joint ELAC and SSC meeting, February 15th, 6:00 pm:
This meeting is for all parents. Mrs. Lambert will give you information regarding the Superintendent's Strategic Plan and all parents will give their opinion and ideas about the needs, goals, and direction of the district's plan (Local Control Accountability Plan - LCAP) for the next 5 years. This is a very important meeting! Childcare and refreshments will be provided. Best regards,
Theresa Lambert
Principal Mariano Castro Elementary

FROM THE DISTRICT
MVWSD preschool achieves highest rating, plans more student slots for 2017-18
Additionally, the preschool plans to expand this fall to 240 total spaces by adding 48 sliding scale, fee-based spaces. Next year, the preschool expects to at least 180 state-preschool, free spaces. Interested parents should register students as soon as possible. Enrollment info: https://www.mvwsd.org/school-page/preschools
General ed preschool programs that are State Preschool funded are currently required to be evaluated for the quality of early education program it provides based on several criteria. The general ed preschool classroom at Slater was one of the first to be rated when the QRIS program was piloted several years ago.
Scores are made available to the public through First5 here: http://www.first5kids.org/early-learning/qris

MVEF to Castro Parents: We need you!
The Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF) is a volunteer driven non-profit that provides funding (with your generous donations!) for programs and educational materials crucial to providing a well-rounded education to our students.
The Board of Directors is currently expanding and developing a pool of potential board member candidates that meets its strategic needs at this time. We need parents of students at Castro; local business leaders; realtors; with connections to our Spanish speaking community; and who have skills in event planning; fundraising; and non-profit law.
We encourage anyone who is interested or who knows someone who is a potential match for our needs to contact a board member or send a message to contact@mvef.org. Read more about MVEF at www.mvef.org.
