Mrs. Garthe's Fantastic First Grade

Final Week of First Grade

I can't believe it is that time of year, but as we move into the last week of school I just want to say thank you. Thank you for entrusting your most prized gift into my care throughout this school year. You should be so proud of your children and how much progress they have made. I was just looking through their writing samples from kindergarten and wow, what a difference a year makes! Many of them could barely write a sentence then, and today I just finished reading their animal "books" with full chapters of information!! Many are reading chapter books now and every student in our class met the first grade math fluency goal! It is going to be a tough week as I say goodbye to my students and Castlio. I've come to know and love the students and staff here and I wish I didn't have to leave, but when positions are cut and you are the last hire, sometimes things don't work out the way you hope they will. However, I am very grateful that I was offered another job in the district teaching 2nd grade at Daniel Boone Elementary. It makes me sad to think my first-graders won't be able to say "Hi" on their way to their second grade classrooms next year, so please feel free to contact me through the same email address or via Facebook. I would love to stay in touch. I also would like to set up a class playdate at a park this summer, so be looking for an email sometime in June. Thanks again for having such wonderful children. It has been a joy and honor to be their first grade teacher. I will miss you all. Have a wonderful summer!
