Principal's Corner

Welcome to 2019-2020 Horn Elementary school year! I am so excited for school to start and to welcome all our new and returning students back. Hopefully, everyone was able to have a fun and restful summer.

This is a very exciting year for Horn as we will be celebrating Horn Elementary's 50th school year. We are planning some fun activities that will involving bringing in past and present Horn families and staff to celebrate 50 years of Hornet Pride.

As for me, this is my 12 year as Horn Principal and 20th year in the Iowa City Community School District. I have had the pleasure of being a student, parent, teacher and principal at Horn and there is no place I would rather be. My door is always open so please feel free to stop in, call or email.

This year we have added a few new staff members to our Horn Family. Please welcome Natalie Whelchel (PK), Breanna Ward (1st Grade), Macy Simmer (2nd Grade), Craig Pitcher (PE), Mary Ervanian (ELL), Kelly Neveln (0.5 ELL), Diane Dolder ( Food Service Lead)and Jodie Obermueller as our school nurse. Also, Elise Brown will now be teaching 3rd Grade.

Every month you will receive the Horn Piper from me with upcoming events and classroom news. Additionally, you will receive a weekly email, the Horn Buzz, that will tell of events happening the next week. These will come to you through email so please keep an eye out for them.

Please visit the Horn and District Website for calendars of events and holidays.
