What's happening in Room 6?

End of the Marking Period

I can't believe it's already the end of the second marking period! It officially ends on Friday, January 22nd. Your child's progress report will be sent home on Wednesday, February 10th. This progress report will include comments since I do not formally conduct conferences with every parent. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's progress, please contact me.

We are nearing the end of unit 4. We will have our math test sometime during the week of January 25th. I will give you a more exact date once we see how this week progresses. We will be continuing to work on measuring skills along with reviewing addition and subtraction story problems, telling time, and counting money.

This week, we are focusing on the long u and long e patterns. We will also be looking at inflected ending -ed. It's important that your child learn that -ed at the end of a word can make three different sounds (t, d and ed). We will review all three sounds and also focus on applying our knowledge of the sounds in our everyday writing. Our spelling test will be on Friday, January 22nd.

Two weeks ago, Mrs. Coleman started to come into our classroom to review important friendship skills with our class. She visits us once a week to review skills such as...

  • working out differences with a friend
  • accepting friends when they think differently
  • making new friends
  • working together with our peers

The kids really enjoy her stories and activities that she uses to teach each of these skills. :)

Book Orders

January's book order is due on Friday, January 22nd. You can access Scholastic's website here. Thank you to everyone who ordered. Each time an online order is placed, our classroom gets a free book! The kids are really hooked on those Elephant and Piggie books and with your help I've been able to order 5 for our classroom. Thank you!!
