Note from Ms. Moulton
I hope that you and your children are all doing well. Like me, I am sure that you had some feelings when the governor announced the extended school closure. While these are certainly challenging times, there is also something beautiful in the idea that our community and world are working together for the benefit of not only of ourselves, but of others. Earlier this week as I was popping into some Community Meetings, one first grader asked, "Why do we need to stay home? Why can't we come to school?". I was so glad that he asked these questions! I replied that we were all working together to prevent germs from spreading so that we could keep each other safe - that we were being superheroes by staying home to protect each other. This response was enough for him. It is likely that your children are asking you questions. Follow their lead and give them the information and reassurance that they are looking for. This will make them feel safe in the midst of so many messages. You've got this. WE'VE got this.
Remote Learning
Last week you received the Extended Learning Opportunities link from the district. There are a tremendous amount of resources there and I encourage you to continue to use that as a hub of information. Additionally, I have been so very impressed with the materials being sent by our Hosmer teachers. If you have not already received communication about learning opportunities for this week, know that they are on the way! At the end of this newsletter, you will also find links to newsletters put together by our Hosmer mental health team and the specials teachers. We hope that you will find these to be helpful to you and your families.
Chromebooks & Technology
Given the extension of the school closure, we anticipate that more families may be in need of Chromebooks. Mrs. Fitzpatrick will deploy more devices later this week. If you are in need of a device, please email your child's classroom teacher or Mrs. Fitzpatrick directly at marykatherine.fitzpatrick@watertown.k12.ma.us. She will then be in touch with you regarding times for pick up. There is also information below regarding upcoming technology workshops for families that will be interpreted in both Spanish and Portuguese.
Class Placement Letters
Several families have contacted me inquiring about class placement for next year as I had previously asked for hard copy requests to be submitted to the office by April 1st. Given the givens, we will be revising this process and I will share new plans with you once they are developed.
Stay well, continue to be kind to yourselves, and please tell your children that I miss them and say hello.
As always, thank you for your support of our fantastic school!
Erin Moulton
