Notes from the Principaws #5 (Dec)
Mr. Vince Sette and Mrs. Nicole McQuate
The Start of December and End of 2021
As we approach the holiday season we want to express say THANK YOU to everyone for such a wonderful year thus far. We are so blessed to be working with the students, families, and staff that we have at Norwayne Elementary.
The office is currently open from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm at the elementary.
We will begin to have different grade-level concerts throughout the year. Please refer to the letter from Mrs. Knight that was sent home to parents about our concerts during the school year.
Mrs. Knight's Letter for NES Concerts
Parents, please return all school forms ASAP. These are essential to ensure we have the most up-to-date information for your child. Thank you for your continued support in filling these forms out for us.
Norwayne Elementary LITERACY Spotlight
Literacy is an integral part of a student's success in school. Please take some time to visit the NES Literacy Page where we highlight different aspects of what the students are working on in school along with book recommendations from staff and students. Be on the lookout for some Literacy Parent Nights in the near future.
Counselor's Corner with Ms. Achberger
Counseling Lessons in December:
In K-3, our theme is Emotion Management. Here are some of the topics we will cover in each grade level.
K: Identifying things that make us happy and sad
1st: How to tell how others are feeling and things that make us worry
2nd: Identifying different emotional states and reasons we may feel proud
3rd: Information that emotions give us and differences between annoyed, angry, and furious
In 4th and 5th, we are continuing our discussion about learning styles and how they can improve our study skills. Students have already learned to identify if they are visual, auditory, read-write, kinesthetic learners, or a combination of the four. Then, they were introduced to strategies to take notes and record homework in their agendas based on their learning style.
This month, students will learn how to organize and study their notes!
I will be visiting each classroom twice this month to discuss these topics.

2021-2022 NES BREAKFAST and LUNCHES
Norwayne Masks Update as of December 1, 2021
- For the 2021-2022 school year, students/families will have the option to choose what they would like to do with mask-wearing when on Norwayne grounds.
- The one exception remains with bus transportation. Students will be required to wear masks while being transported on school busses.
****Please note that we can update the mask stance at any time as we continue to listen and follow mandates from the governor and health departments as new information is made available during the pandemic.
We thank everyone so much for helping comply with all the changes that have taken place. Together we can accomplish so much and continue to make Norwayne amazing!

DECEMBER STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Mrs. Evans
- 8 years
- I love seeing the "light bulb" moments with my students. When a new skill or concept clicks with them and suddenly makes sense.
A few years ago we did a 5th-grade kickball tournament, and I was the pitcher. I am very competitive, so I was trying to strike all of the students out. I was amazed at how athletic the students were. Lots of home runs even with my challenging pitching. We had a great day and lots of laughs.
- People will not always remember what you said, but they will definitely remember how you made them FEEL.
Mr. Necko
- 18 years
- Seeing the growth in the children from the beginning of the year to the end.
- A physical education teacher was doing a bowling lesson at the old Creston Middle School. He set up the pins to have them ready for class. When his first-class began, I rolled a ball knocking down all the pins in several lanes at once. Then I noticed that the teacher was being observed by the principal for his observation!
- Knowledge is power, learn something new every day.
Mrs. Turner
- I have been in Norwayne for 25 years.
- It always makes me smile when a student says or does something that they’ve never done or said before.
- One time our class was watching a video of “Dora the Explorer,” when a student came over to ask me a question. While he was talking to me, he kept looking away at the video, and then he would look back at me. That went on for a little while. when finally he looked at me and exclaimed “Mrs Turner! You look just like Dora!” And with my hairstyle I really did!
Always be honest and tell the truth .
NEW Parent Drop Off and Pick Up for 2021-2022
A few important notes for morning drop off:
Our morning drop-off routine is running very smoothly. Thank you to Officer Hartman and the parents for hopping on the double line-up system allowing us to get more cars in the loop and away from Route 3. Please refer to the picture below in regards to the two-lane system. Parents, please be cognizant of the curb we are acquiring some damage as tires grind against the concrete.
- Students being dropped off or riding their bikes will be allowed to enter the building at 8:40 am, as we did last year. They will not be permitted to stand outside and wait for the cafeteria doors to open.
- During the morning drop-off time, when exiting the parking lot, cars will only be allowed to make a right-hand turn. This is something we did last year, and it helped reduce the congestion and improve the flow of traffic.
- We ask that you do not park in the drop-off loop. If you need to park to bring something to the office or walk your child to the door, this needs to occur in the parking spaces. This way, the loop will not become clogged as it is a single-car loop.
- Students are able to exit their cars only if they are parked along the curb. Please do not get out of the car in the grass at this time. Use the crosswalk as the cut-off for now.
- Please make sure to pull all the way up so we can ensure we get as many cars on the curb as possible.
A few important notes for parent pick up:
We would like the parents to know we appreciate your patience in the afternoon as the afternoon pick-up crew works tirelessly to ensure we have a quick, efficient, and above all else safe system in place for the children. We are averaging 70+ cars at the end of the day can you believe that! Parents, please be cognizant of the curb we are acquiring some damage as tires grind against the concrete.
- Pick-up will occur as it has in the past, except for the one-direction loop we will now have.
- We ask parents to remain in their cars as staff will walk students to their cars to ensure safety.
- During pick-up times, cars will only be able to make a right-hand turn when exiting the parking lot. Again this helps with reducing congestion and improving the flow of traffic.
- As you drive by the crosswalk please have your window down to let Mrs. Knight or one of the other workers know who you are there to pick up.
- We appreciate the parents working quickly to help buckle their children.
NES Parking Lot Video (Mr. Sette walking)
NES Parking Lot Video (Cars Driving)
PLEASE MAKE SURE WHEN DROPPING OFF OR PICKING UP IN THE LOOP YOUR CAR REMAINS IN PARK UNTIL YOUR CHILD HAS FULLY EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WALKED BY YOU ON THE CONCRETE CURB.
