April Updates!
We kicked off the new year with fitness testing for the 3rd - 5th graders as well as some practice in fitness testing and movements for our younger elementary grades! Upper El. completed the following events: standing Long Jump, Shuttle Run, Curl-Ups, 1 Minute Jump Rope and Sit & Reach. All of these scores have been recorded and will be used when deciding who will represent the school at the Royal Oak Junior Olympics in the spring.
Following fitness testing we dove right in to a 4 week floor hockey unit. Students in all grades worked through a variety of basic hockey skills including how to hold a stick in a neutral position, puck control and striking with power for a pass or shot on goal. We finished that unit with two full days of mini games in class.
After floor hockey we worked through a Overhand Throw / Underhand Toss and Catching unit. I introduced some basic techniques in regards to an overhand throw and toss as well as some key points when receiving or catching. We introduced a variety of activities for students to use their new skills on including a target team game, Oscar's garbage can, Switch and Container ball.
Lastly, students have started their journey up Mount Addams and Mount Upton. In order to move up the mountain towards the peak 80% or more of the class need to be jogging for the entire allotted time assigned to them that day. We are focusing on controlling breathing and pacing ourselves for a longer distance run as we prep for timed run tests toward the end of the month!

Shoe Reminder
Please make sure you are sending your child to school with a change of shoes on PE days. My number one goal is to keep your child safe and that includes preventing injuries related to improper shoe wear in PE. Thank you!
