New ELA Curriculum for Wake County 3rd Graders

Wake County is implementing a new ELA Curriculum for our 3rd graders called EL or Expeditionary Learning. EL is a rigorous curriculum that challenges students at a high level. 3rd grade teachers have gone to training sessions to begin the implementation of EL. If you would like to find out more about EL go to the EL video for parents.

Wake County Tobacco Products Policy

Several parents have asked what the Wake County Policy is for Tobacco products while on campus (Carpool, etc.) and while chaperoning field trips. In a nutshell, they are not allowed. Please review the linked details of the policy in the Student/Parent Handbook and in the WCPSS Policy Manual re: Tobacco-Free Environment.

Lots of Great Happenings at PUE

Lots of great things are going on at Pleasant Union. Be sure to follow our school @PleasantUnionYR as well as the many classroom Twitter and individual student Seesaw portfolio feeds. It's a great way to see what our students are doing in real time.

Here Comes the Bus

Here Comes the Bus is a new app for parents launched for year-round schools the week of Aug. 21. It will be available for traditional schools in mid-September. Remember that we will still provide updates for expected bus delays or if we are alerted that there will be a subs via the Remind app.

Let PTA Know About Your Business

The Pleasant Union PTA is creating a Business Directory of PUE work places and family owned-operated businesses. Green registration forms were sent home in Tuesday folders. The link is now live on puepta.com or you can follow the link in the emailed version of this message. The deadline to submit this information is September 15. Please take this opportunity to let PUE families support you!

Have You Registered to be a Volunteer Yet?

Thanks to so many parents that have already registered to be a volunteer. Wake County Schools require all volunteers to renew their volunteer registrations each year or if they are new to volunteering register for the first time. Registration approval enables you to go on field trips with your children and to work with small groups and individual students. Be sure to renew or register ASAP as many field trips are coming up in September and the fall of the year. The office has a station available each day until 3:30 pm.
