NOTE FROM NURSE LIZ:
CLINIC NEWS
I can’t believe how quickly our first semester has passed! As of mid November, I have had 1910 clinic visits. This includes students who come see me to receive daily medications or procedures, students who need to be assessed because they are not feeling well, or get injured during the school day. Please make sure that the front office and myself have a current phone number to reach you if needed.
Well Child was here to do state required vision and hearing screenings. Unless a parent opted out, all 6th and 8th grade students were screened. Parents will be contacted if any concerns were identified. The FSSD partnered with the Williamson County Public Health Department, to administer Flu shots in all the schools in our district. The best way to help prevent influenza, is to get a flu shot. Parents, please remind your child that no sharing of food is allowed at school, including on the bus, snack time or lunch. There have been several occasions where students have brought medication to school. It is our district policy and against Tennessee state law for any student to be in possession of any prescription or non-prescription medications. This includes cough drops, ointments or creams, eye drops, essential oils, etc. All medications must be brought to the clinic with a completed FSSD medication administration form.
I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday season!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER:
International Baccalaureate Informational Parent Meeting
Location: Freedom Middle School- Tuesday, November 28th
We are excited to share information with interested 8th grade parents and students about the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at Franklin High School. The IB Diploma Program (DP) encourages students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners. The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay. Through the DP core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that usually involves community service.
The meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. and conclude around 7:30.
GRADE LEVEL NEWS:
5TH GRADE NEWS:
We came back from Fall Break rested and eager to continue our learning. We started November with an incredible trip to Chattanooga's Aquarium. Many of the kiddos had never been, so it was fun watching their sweet faces soak in all the different habitats and animals. It seemed that the penguins and ocean building was a much bigger hit than the River/Fresh Water Building, although several kids came home with a stuffed river otter from the aquarium gift shop:).
Several of the kids expressed their excitement about Fall Fest; an experience they haven't had since becoming Middle Schoolers. We continue to express PGS's philosophy of being encouraging and classy, even through competition. This group of 5th graders never disappoints. Through the Pumpkin Contest, students expressed excitement for all the pumpkins and were excited to see what the other classes came up with! The fifth grade team is so blessed to be able to spend our days with them!
They're taking all the new activities and work load in stride and continue to impress their teachers with their insight and perspectives. We are so excited to see what they'll be teaching us as we continue through the year.
6TH GRADE NEWS:
7TH GRADE NEWS:
Seventh-grade students modeled all of the processes of the rock cycle, such as weathering, erosion, compaction, melting, and cooling, to make 3 different types of "rocks" using crayons.

Spanish News:
8th grade Spanish students had a wonderful time during their 1st Dia de Los muertos learning station event. Students created tables filled with flowers, foods, drinks, and crafts representing the famous holiday. We had over 100 guests in our classroom. Thank you to all the parents and staff who visited our classroom. We appreciate you all so very much! Feliz dia de accion gracias.
FALL FEST WAS A SUCCESS:
Thanks to everyone who helped make Fall Fest successful. It was amazing to see the level of support and the positive interactions. We raised a total of $7,576.76. While this is below our goal, we are grateful for every penny raised! This money will help us with technology, House shirts, classroom items, etc.
We have 4 prizes total:
- Because we brought in over $5,000 we will have popsicles and extra recess school wide. We will probably wait for a warmer day to have this reward!
- Ms. Womack’s class brought in the most band sales so they will be having cookies and milk provided by our PTO.
- Ms. Ayers’s class brought in the most baked goods and will be receiving donuts and milk.
- Ms. Phy’s class won the coveted prize of best pumpkin and will get to dress Mr. Treadway up in wacky items this Friday!
Again, thank you for all of your support and hard work. We will stretch every dollar and make it count!
