Hello Wildcat Families,

February has been a great month at Weiss! Thank you all for your continued partnership throughout this second semester. Please take a moment to check out our school updates, news, and learning taking place at Weiss this past month.

Also, if you have another moment, the Google Form below is a quick way to share a shout-out about a Weiss staff member. A single sentence or two can really make a great impact. https://forms.gle/Rx4AvhThzRxZHc3r6

NEW Weiss PTO Website

All parents and staff are members of our Weiss Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The PTO partners together with school faculty to provide educational programs, assemblies, events and activities for our Wildcat students. I highly recommend checking out their new website at WeissElementaryPTO.ptboard.com and joining their private Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/weisspto. Here you will find information about upcoming events.

Help the PTO Support our Wildcats

The PTO has two school year-long fundraisers available, both of which benefit the programs, events, and materials sponsored by the PTO. Every purchase helps the PTO work with teachers and staff to give our Wildcats what they need to for fun and successful year.

Our Weiss spirit wear is available with 10 different designs available. Want a little bling? Choose your design in a blue or silver glitter design. Looking to sport our Wildcat mascot? Select on of three Frankie the Wildcat designs. Want to show a little kindness? We have Kind Human, Wildcat designs. Purchase your spirit wear at weisselementaryspiritwear.com. All purchases made from February 19- March 8 are eligible for free shipping. This offer can be combined with other promotional offers. Our February promotion is 10% off zip ups with code Feb21W.

What a Crock Fundraiser – Catchy name, great food. What a Crock offers busy families the opportunities to purchase crock-pot ready meals that make dinner time easy and delicious. As tried and true users of What a Crock, the PTO is proud to partner with this company. Everything we’ve tried has been generously portioned, filling, and tastes homemade. Place your home delivery order at: https://whatacrockfundraisers.com/pages/weiss. This fundraiser will last through the summer, with 10-30% of the cost of each item purchased going back to the PTO.

March Reading Month – Celebrating with Music and Reading

March is national reading month - a month to motivate readers of all ages to read every day. To celebrate, we have created a month-long schedule of events. More information to come on the PTO website and Facebook pages.

Updated WCHD Health Screener

The Wayne County Health Department (WCHD) has recently updated their COVID-19 screening tool (CLICK HERE TO VIEW) for students. Although the symptoms to look for have not changed and our process at the district will remain the same when students are exhibiting symptoms, the WCHD has added restrictions for those who travel internationally. Specifically, WCHD is requiring that any student who travels internationally quarantine for 7 days from their date of return to the U.S. and on the 7th day, that student would need to get a COVID - PCR test. Once a student receives a negative PCR test result, they are allowed to return to schools. We know that some families and students are planning international travel over spring break and that this change will impact the return from this travel. If you have questions about this change, please contact Wayne County Health Department.

Just a small glimpse of some of the great things happening at Weiss Recently

5th graders at Weiss are using STEM this past month to learn about their senses and to create slingshots/catapults. While learning about their senses, they had to observe and document their findings about different liquids and materials. While testing their catapults in the hallway, students in the classroom were still able to observe other students' test-results through video communication technology.Upon testing and seeing other designs, students had the chance to go back and adjust their catapult/slingshot to improve their performance. This is all part of the engineering process.
