Science Saftey

Goggles - Place strap over head, Then place lences secerly over eyes.


Apron- Put strap over neck, Have apron protecting the front side of our body, Tie strap behind back.


Eye Wash Station- DO NOT RUB YOUR EYES! Lead person to eye wash station, then rinse eyes for 15 minutes.


Fire Blanket- Cover fire completely with fire blanket, hold blanket over fire until heat is gone, DO NOT FAN THE FIRE!


Fire Extinguisher- Pull the pen, then aim at the source, squeeze the trigger, then sweep back and forth.


Gloves- Stick hand in glove, put finger through the holes.

Metals, Non Metals, Metalloids

Luster- you take your object and shine a light on it, if it shines then it had luster


Brittlness- you take your object and smash it, if it breaks it's brittle


Magnetic- you take your object and hold it up to a magnet if it is attracted to the object then it is magnetic


Ductile- you take your object and if it becomes a wire, then it is ductile


Conductivity- you take your object and connect it to a complete circuit, if it works, then it's Conductive


Malleable- you take your object and smash it with a hammer, if it stay's in one piece, then it is Malleable


If you put metals, non metals, and metalloids on the periodic table then the metals would be on the left side of the Metalloids because metalloids are in the middle of the periodic table. But non metals would be on the right side of the metalloids.

Density

How to calculate the density of a regular object?

You have to find the mass- use a triple beam balance

You have to find the volume- use a ruler to measure L X W X H

Find Density- Mass Divided by Volume= Density


How to calculate the density of Irregular objects?

How to find mass- use a triple beam balance

How to find the volume- use a graduated cylinder, Measure amount of water in container, then place object in water then measure amount of water that is now in container, subtract to find the volume.

Minerals

Luster- You take your mineral and a flashlight, then you take your flashlight and shine it on the mineral, if the mineral shines, then it has luster

Streak- You take your mineral and some sand paper, then you scratch your mineral on the sand paper, then you look at the sand paper and you can see the minerals streak

Color- You pick up your mineral, then you look at your mineral, and you can see it's main color

Hardness- You take your mineral and smash it with a hammer

What Is Moh's Hardness Scale?
Moh's hardness scale is when you take 10 different minerals and try to figure out what order they go into, Moh's hardness scale helps people categorize minerals and to make it easier to organize the minerals

Investigations

Here is a variable of an investigation, lets use density as an example.

Density Of A Regular Objects- First off, when it says "Regular Objects." It means stuff like, a cube, a cylinder,EX... So What to do to find the mass of the "Regular Object." You Have to use a triple beam balance. Then to find the volume of the "Regular Object." you have to use a ruler to find the L X W X H. Then to find the density you just have to do: Mass Divided By Volume.

Density Of A Irregular Objects- Now that you know a "Regular Object" is something that is filled in and has no empty spaces, you need to know that an "Irregular Object" does have holes in it. For example: Scissors, Cup,Ex.... So to find the mass of an "Irregular Object" you have to use a triple beam balance. Then to find the volume of an "Irregular Object" you have to measure the amount of water that will cover the entire object, then you record the starting level of the water, then drop your "Irregular Object" in the water, record the new water level, then subtract the new water level from the starting water level, then you have the "Irregular Objects Density.
