Back To School!
It's almost that time. Our staff is so excited to meet your child! Teacher assignments will be available via the Parent Portal on Saturday, August 25th and will be sent out via mail on Friday the 24th. You and your child will have the opportunity to meet his or her teacher at Student Orientation on September 5th at 9:30 am at Cambridge Park.
At orientation you'll receive a Parent Handbook and additional school information. Teachers will be updating their pages on our school website weekly once school begins, so I encourage you to check it regularly to find out what's going on in your child's classroom. Families' participation is an important piece of our program's success. We love when parents volunteer to spend time in our classrooms or come in for special events! Speak to your child's teacher to learn about other ways you might participate in your child's educational experience at Cambridge Park.
I look forward to seeing all of our young students in just a few weeks. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any concerns you may have beforehand.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Regards,
Maggie Lazur
Assistant Director of Special Services/Preschool Assistant Principal
First Day Jitters (Pre-K Drop Off 101)
1) Establish morning routines. Parents who drop off students should wait by the entrance closest to the playground (near the Cambridge Park Elementary School sign) with their child. The doors open at 8:35 at which time staff will come out to assist students into the building. Parents are not permitted into the building or classrooms with students.
2) Make your goodbyes QUICK. Although it's hard to do, the best way to help your child adjust is to keep your goodbyes short to minimize anxiety about leaving you. Consider coming up with a quick goodbye routine with your little one prior to the start of school (ie: silly hug, quick handshake, special wave, etc.). If practiced in advance at home, this ritual may provide your child with a bit of comfort on the first day of school. We assure you that we have plenty of staff to help get your child to class and to provide some comfort in the event that there are tears.
3) Consistency, consistency, consistency! Try to keep your morning routines as consistent as possible. Provide your student with advanced warning if anything is going to change.
Letting go is hard but it’s a normal part of the process—and a healthy one at that! It is our hope that we can work together to help our students and parents through the transition that is the first day of preschool.
PARKING LOT SAFETY/ DROP OFF PROCEDURES
Parking
Buses arrive and pull up to the curb in the front of the building to allow students to safely disembark on the sidewalk. Cars are not permitted to use the far aisle closest to the playground once arrival has started as this lane is reserved for buses. Parents dropping off students will be directed to instead proceed down the center aisle of the parking lot and to stay to the left.
If no parking spots are available, parents are asked to park out on the main street and walk their child up to the building. Vehicles will not be allowed to park or idle illegally in the lot for the safety of all of our students. Safety is our main priority.
Parking Lot Safety Rules:
In the parking lot parents must hold their child’s hand.
Do not leave any child (even your older one) unattended in your car.
Always keep the aisles clear- do not idle or park unless you're in a parking spot.
Please be sure to follow the state car belt laws by using an age appropriate car seat and securing your child in it all the time.
We thank you for your full cooperation.
