RILINK Newsletter

Back to School - August 2022

Welcome Back

The start of the school year is always exciting. Whether you are in a new position or returning to your recent one, in this month's newsletter you will find reminders and information to help you as you get started.

RILINK Staff

Interim Co-Directors Karen Shore and Jackie Lamoureux are looking forward to working with you. Using the RILINK Help Request Form is the best way to reach us.The link to the form is in the signatures of RILINK Staff and is an orange button on the right hand side of the RILINK website. If you need immediate assistance please call (leave a voicemail) or text. Contact information can be found in our email signatures.

Spread the word. RILINK is accepting applications for the Executive Director Position and for a Member Services Librarian.

Directory Update

If you changed schools, are in a new position, or if you have a new librarian in your district please fill out the Directory Update form. This is also used to keep the RILINK listserv up to date.

Changes to Destiny Discover

Destiny 19.5 was released this summer and incorporates enhancements to Follett Destiny® Library Manager, Follett Destiny Discover®, Follett Destiny® Resource Manager, and more.

Follett is offering a webinar September 13 at 2pm CT for a comprehensive look at the features and functionality of this new version. Can’t attend the live webinar? Register now, and receive the recording!

Patron Updates (and other tech info)

The Tech Corner on our website has Tips and Technical Directions for Follett Destiny, including patron updates. If your school is not automatically updating records, we need to set up automatic updates with the IT Department at your school. The directions for doing this are on our website. If the IT staff is not prepared to do this right away, let Dorothy know, and she can do the initial upload, if needed, to get things started.

Interlibrary Loan

RILINK member schools have several options for borrowing materials from outside their own collections, including borrowing from schools within the same district, known as In District Loan (IDL), borrowing from participating RILINK schools through Cross District Loan (CDL), and through the Library of Rhode Island (LORI) Network. IDL should always be the first option. More information about all ILL types is available here including the 2022-2023 Monthly ILL Tally Sheet

Follett is working on an improved CDL module that will be rolled out in the next Destiny Release scheduled for December. New features include hold requests initiated by students and the ability to search outside of your own district integrated into Destiny Discover.

LORI Certification

School libraries that plan to participate in statewide Interlibrary Loan must complete LORI Certification by September 30th. Information about logging into LibPAS to submit your information was sent on July 18 to your library's RILINK email address XYZ@rilink.org. If you need help with this email account or the password for this account, please fill out a help request form.

A recording of the August 18 training session is available using the passcode: 16N+7NSK

Email notifications from Sharon will go out on Wednesday, August 31, related to out of date content and possible deletion of guides. Users receiving notification that guides will be deleted have until September 14 to contact Sharon. She will respond to questions at sharon@rilink.org.

Please direct all general questions about LibGuides using the RILINK Help Request form.
