Music is in the Air!

By Ryan Gorman and Donna Hochhauser

The Weehawken District Concert was held on March 27 in the High School Auditorium. Every performing group from each school in the district attended and performed in the program.

The 5th & 6th Grade Bell Choir opened the show with the song "Fly Me to the Moon" made popular by our own Hudson County's Frank Sinatra and the TRS 5th & 6th Grade Chorus sang the song "High Hopes" from the film A Pocketful of Miracles which carried a message of persistence and never giving up.

In addition to the Bell Choir and Chorus, TRS was also represented by the 5th and 6th Grade String Enrichment program and the 6th Grade Band. The string enrichment group, comprised of almost 25 students, performed “Impulse” by Brian Balmages, a fast-paced and energetic piece that the students really enjoyed learning.

The 6th grade band, almost 50 students strong, closed out the first half of the concert with a performance of “March of the Champions”, a regal and triumphant sounding tune that was a fitting end to an exciting section of the concert.

The concert was very well-attended and sold out just about every seat in the house! Come join us next year to get a look into every aspect of the WTSD Music Programs, including a performance from our 2017 State and National Champion Weehawken HS Marching Band! There will be auditions for 5th & 5th grade Chorus and Bell Choir coming up in June. Details will come soon.

National History Day

All sixth grade students participated on National History Day on April 10th. Students had a choice to present their projects in various formats. They chose skits, papers, documentaries, websites and more. The theme was "Conflict and Compromise" and the students did a fabulous job. All work was completed during Ms. Boshell's sixth grade Social Studies classes.

Peer Leadership

"The Sixth Grade -Group A Peer Leaders of Ms. Barbarise, assisted Ms. Fatima Gonzalez and our PTA in their "TRS Kids Care Donations Drive" for the patients at the Hackensack Children's Hospital. The Peer Leaders were busy packing all of the items donated by our school community, along with cards written and designed by our students and Peer Leaders. Soon we will be launching our annual "Towel Drive" for the BC Rescue Foundation- a nearby no-kill animal shelter. We will be collecting gently used towels, treats, etc. for our furry friends. As always, we thank you for your support. Great Job, Kids!! :) "
