WE ARE ATHOLTON !
Dear Atholton Families,
The past week once again had us battling inclement weather with a day off on Wednesday and a delayed opening on Thursday. It is my sincere hope that the remainder of our school year will be free of inclement weather as Spring is just around the corner!
This past Friday, the Black Student Union held their annual Black History Month program. As the new principal, I was eager to see what this entailed. Needless to say, once again I was blown away by the talent of our students. The program was an artful blend of being educative and entertaining. Students and staff learned about the Tuskegee Syphilis Trials, Historically Black Colleges, and other significant African-American milestones. Dance performances and even an appearance by the Jackson 5 were highlights of the program. The BSU did an outstanding job in putting forth a program to honor Black History Month. There will be an evening program this Friday, March 1. On a personal note, a sincere thank you to students who joined in to sing Happy Birthday to me at the conclusion of the program! 😊
To close, I would like to take some time to share some thoughts on our school community. As a new member to the Atholton community, what is it about our community that makes individuals want to send their children to our school? The quality of teaching, the diversity of our community, the JROTC program? While everyone is likely to answer this question differently, whatever the reason, WE ARE ATHOLTON! Our school is one of the things that unifies us and makes us a community. I have been so impressed with the way the individuals in our community come together for our students. Our students are the reason we do what we do. Whatever differences we may have or issues that arise, we must all keep in the forefront of our mind that our actions are for what is best for children. This shared belief is what unites us as community and drives us to be better. Moreover, we serve as role models of civil behavior and interactions with each other. To the volunteers who give their time, money, and talent to our school community—THANK YOU! Your commitment to Atholton does not go unnoticed. We appreciate you and all that you do. Let us continue to work together to keep our community strong and productive.
Wishing you all a fantastic week!
Warmly,
Robert A. Motley

Congratulations to the 2018-2019 County Champs!Spring Sports
Tryouts for our spring sports teams are right around the corner and will begin on Friday, March 1st. Please see below for important information in regards to tryouts.
SCHEDULE FOR TRYOUTS: Tryout Schedule for Spring Sports (see below)
TRYOUTS: Participants are expected to be at ALL tryouts. Practices will begin immediately after teams are selected. Please plan time accordingly. All participants MUST have all forms filled out prior to tryouts. Participants will not be allowed to tryout if paper work is missing or incomplete.
SPRING ATHLETIC FORMS: The HCPSS Office of Information Technology has developed a portal through HCPSS Connect Parent Access to submit ALL of your Spring Athletics Forms. Parents/guardians can now fill out required forms, upload physicals and proof of residency documents, and complete the eligibility process just by following this link: HCPSS Connect. This is a safe and secure way to sign up your child to participate in the upcoming 2019 Spring Athletics sports season.
Concussion baseline testing is no longer mandatory however, participants still need to fil out the concussion awareness form.
If you participate in a fall or winter sport, all you would need is a current utility bill and a parent permission form.
Questions can be directed to Mr. Senisi, Athletic and Activities Manager at michael_senisi@hcpss.org.
Leadership U -- Class of 2019
Are you thinking of college for your child? Let Leadership U help your current sophomore build the skills that will help them succeed! Leadership U can provide him or her a memorable week-long program of leadership development, networking, and community awareness. Beginning the end of July and continuing through the fall of their junior year with nine Sunday afternoon group meetings, LU will give your child the opportunity to build their network, strengthen their leadership skills, meet new students, and work on a community service project of their choice.
Come learn more and speak to some of our grads at one of our final information session: March 7 at Miller Library, both from 7-8pm.
Parents and students in both 9th and 10th grade are encouraged to attend. Additional information is available at http://www.leadershiphc.org/leadership-u-2/ or email Meg Ignacio mignacio@leadershiphc.org. Online applications are due March 14, 2019.
Raiders After Midnight: Post- Prom Information
"Raiders After Midnight" is open to all Juniors, Seniors, and their guests. Students do not have to attend Prom to attend Post Prom.
It takes a village to host the post prom party. We are seeking volunteers to contact local businesses to donate to this event. Volunteers report at 10 pm to set up. If anyone can help, please contact ptsa@atholtonptsa.org.
The PTSA also accepts donations from parents of all grades - pay it forward!
Registration Open!
AP students will be receiving their 2019 AP Guide for students and parents and registration instructions on Monday, 1/28. Registration opens on February 2 via student Naviance Accounts. Each exam is $94.00, payments can be made by check payable to Atholton High School or you may pay by Credit Card. Students should print their online Naviance Survey and bring it to the Student Services Office along with their check, or online credit card payment receipt. If you have any questions please contact Nina Dix or Yvonne Rogers in Student Services.
Athletic Boosters BULL ROAST
The Bull Roast is the Athletic Boosters biggest fundraiser and it takes a ton of people to organize the event. We are still looking for help with the entertainment, publicity and fundraising committees. If you own a business or provide a service, or know someone that does, and could possibly donate an item for our silent auction, we'd love to talk to you about it. In the past, items have included haircuts, massages, time share rentals, personal training, helicopter rides, balloon rides, aquarium tickets, show tickets, you name it. All of these are tax deductible. Please contact me at (president@atholtonboosters.org) if you have something to donate.
This year's theme is "Denim and Diamonds" and we will be having a professional DJ, casino games, line dancing led by our own Athletic Director and coaches, silent auction, photo booth and many, many more fun activities. Ticket sales will begin in mid-February, but we'd love to have to attend the planning meetings Monday nights every other week at 7pm in the Senior Cafeteria (Feb 25, March 11 and March 25).
