Italy and Greece Trip
Good news! We have added an additional bus to the 2021 Greece & Italy tour. With this additional bus, we have a few extra spots for the upcoming tour. This comes with several perks! We will have a free bus and an additional tour guide, at no additional cost. I would like to open these spots to student travelers only. If you are a parent or family member of a student who wishes to travel, please know that we have several parent travelers already signed up. I want to be sure our students are given priority on the available spots we have remaining. Any additional spaces that are not filled, will be filled by adult travelers who are currently on the waiting list. If you are on the waitlist at the moment, you will be notified by EF when you are bumped up to a traveling spot. Once you are moved to a traveling spot, you are responsible immediately for the monthly payments on the balance of the trip. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Huggins. You can sign up for the trip here.

Active Minds
mindĀ·fulĀ·ness
1. the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.
2. a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while
calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.
Circular Breathing Exercise
The idea is to draw your awareness inward.
Find a quiet place to sit.
Close your eyes and inhale through the nose for 4 counts. 1...2...3...4
Hold the breath for 4 counts. 1...2...3....4
Exhale for 4 counts. 1...2...3...4
Ideally, your breathing should be slow, gentle and even.
Do this for 10 breaths, clearing your mind and only thinking of the
rise and fall of your chest.

English
English I Honors: This week, we finished up our first unit on historical fiction with our test on To Kill a Mockingbird. We also completed our first essay, a narrative essay. Students set up their writing portfolios, and completed their first literature circle study. Next week, students will begin Unit 2, a study of Narrative Nonfiction. We will continue to work on analyzing literature, as well as learning the differences between paraphrasing and summarizing, as well as how to analyze an argument in a text.
English IV Honors: Students begin each day in English IV with an ACT Prep vocabulary activity. Overall students preformed with excellence on the first exam. The bulk of class each day was spent on the textual analysis of Anglo-Saxon literature, specifically looking at the elements of A-S poetry in Beowulf. Finally, students worked on solidifying the specific details of their senior project.
Parents, please assist you child with finding a mentor. Identifying and securing a mentor ends up being the most difficult part of the entire project. Once students have a mentor, mentoring hours can begin. Students have access to all forms and documents on both my teacher page and Mrs. Huggins teacher page on the school website. First semester senior project presentations will be held the first of December.
Math
Honors Math 2: The average in both classes is currently an 89. Students did an awesome job on their Unit 1 quiz last Thursday! Next week students will explore complex numbers and review Unit 1. The test on Unit 1 will be on Thursday.
Honors Math IV: This coming week we will continue working on Polynomial and Rational Functions and Equations. We will focus on combining the skills we learned last week to help solve Polynomial Equations of degree greater than two. We will also cover all the mathematical theorems related to this process. There is a quiz planned for Wednesday, and then we will move on to Rational Functions.
Social Studies
Civics & Economics Honors: We completed our study of the Media this week with our test on Thursday. In the next few weeks we will be talking about political parties and taking a look at their structure and purpose. We will have our first class project during this lesson. Interim Reports will be sent home on Monday.
AP World History: We started off the week taking our first look at Document-Based Questions (or DBQs). We will continue to practice writing and examining DBQs this upcoming week to begin preparing for our exam at the end of the school year. We also discussed Ancient Egypt. Next week we will wrap up this introduction to early civilizations with the Indus River Valley. We will have a cumulative test including Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus River Valley beginning Friday of next week. Interim Reports will be sent home on Monday.
AH-1: We have completed and tested Unit 1: 3 Worlds Meet. All Unit 1 work was due Wednesday. Grades will be posted as soon as the County Office fixes my PowerSchool gradebook to correctly reflect scores (50% classwork, 50% test scores). We now begin the American Revolution & writing the US Constitution.
Students are reminded to make a study schedule and stick to their schedule in order to meet the demands of all of their classes.
