What Will the Beginning of School Look Like?
FROM: Guy Parmigian, Superintendent
DATE: June 25, 2020
There have been several meetings during the month of June to plan for the 2020-21 school year. These meetings have involved Board members, parents, support staff, teachers, union leadership, and administrators. We are also collaborating with other school districts in the region. We are working on three different plans for the 2020-21 school year. We will open under one of the plans on the first day of school, August 26.
Why are we working on three different plans? Answer: We still do not have guidance from the Governor, public health officials, and the Ohio Department of Education on how school should open. We were promised a "Restart" document, but this has yet to be released. We expect this document any day. See the latest here from the state level:
https://www.statenews.org/post/dewine-pending-k-12-guidelines-gives-districts-flexibility
We are also working on three different plans because we may have to move between plans during the course of 2020-21 school year.
The three plans we are working on, all of which are subject to change, are below. All are works in progress.
Plan A: 100% of students report to school buildings every school day with safety protocols in place and social distancing the extent possible. This is the plan we want to open with if it is appropriate!*
Plan B: Students would report to buildings two days per week and complete school work from home three days per week. Half the students would report Monday & Thursday, and the other half would report Tuesday & Friday. Wednesday would be used as a planning/intervention day. This plan would be used only if we had to have reduced capacity so we can follow strict social distancing rules. With students being in school only twice per week, we understand that this would pose a huge child care concern for many families, which is why we would like to avoid this if possible.*
*Within Plan A & B, if parents/guardians feel that it is not safe to send their child to school due to a Covid-19 concern, they will have the option to select full online learning from home for their child for the 2020-21 school year. There will be more details to come on this.
Plan C: 100% of students do remote instruction from home. This would be used in an emergency situation where there is an outbreak of Covid-19 or other related situation where we need to close school for more than one or two days.
No decision has been made yet on what plan we will be on. We continue to wait for state guidance. We are still working to develop each of the three plans to make sure we are ready for whatever circumstances we are faced with. I want to stress that we really want to try to open the school year under Plan A, which is all students reporting every school day! Flexibility will be important for all as we move through the upcoming school year.
I will communicate with everyone again before July 10 to make everyone aware of where things are at with planning for next school year. If you have anything you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to contact me.

B-C-S Transportation Form
DUE BY JULY 6th
June 25, 2020
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Please complete the Student Transportation Request Form for the 2020—21 school year. Assume that we will be in regular session, 5 days per week, as we were at the beginning of last school year for purposes of completing this form. Each family will need to fill out one form.
You may select one morning bus pick-up location for your child, and one afternoon bus drop-off location for your child for the entire school year. The morning and afternoon addresses may be different. If the morning or afternoon location is different from your home location, it must be along an existing bus route and the bus must have space available. We no longer do Alternate Site forms. Please fill out the form even if one or more of your children do not need bus transportation. This is the same transportation policy as we had last year.
You can complete this form by clicking the link below. Please complete this form by July 6.

Mental Health and Well Being
These are challenging times for adults, and more so for young people. If you think your child can benefit from talking to a counselor, please do not hesitate to call your child's school on March 30 or after.
I also want to remind you of the Crisis Text Line:
Text HOME to 741741 from anywhere in the United States, anytime, about any type of crisis.
One suggestion for our overall mental health is for us to all get outside and walk, or do some kind of physical activity (while practicing social distancing). Something as simple as a walk can do wonders for the mood and help with anxiety.
