Communicable Illness Update
I hope that you and your children are staying well and healthy while we are away from school for a few days. Just a reminder that if you have any student showing symptoms or has a confirmed case of COVID-19, flu, or strep, please contact us to let us know so we can get you the proper information on return to school protocols.
Please do not hesitate to contact the front office by phone, but the best form of communication would be an email to one or all of the following:
Mrs. Tatia Wilson - BMS Secretary, twilson@boydisd.net
Mrs. Whitney Lamance - Director of Health Services, wlamance@boydisd.net
If you need to contact the school to update us on previous absences, please do not hesitate to do so via phone or email. As always, you can email me with any and all questions along with information about your student. Again, I hope you are all staying well and look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday!
Leaving School?
As a reminder, ALL students who are leaving due to illness must be evaluated by the campus nurse first. Even in those times when students communicate directly to their parents through text or phone call. They will be directed to the nurse prior to leaving. We do this so that we can closely monitor students' signs and symptoms to determine when they can return to school.
Please contact your students campus if he/she is out for FLU/STREP/COVID related symptoms AND diagnosis for any of these! We track these illnesses for the State and for campus cleaning purposes.
Thank you for your understanding as we do our best to keep Yellowjackets healthy and keep germs from spreading!
Menu
7th/8th grade lunch is at 12:35 PM.
If you are dropping off a student lunch, please have it to the school by 12:30 PM and make sure your student knows it is there.
UIL During SWARM
Team selection has been postponed until this week. Be on the lookout for a permission slip if you're student is selected for a team!
There will be two meet dates; February 2nd (Spelling, Music Memory and Speaking events) starting at 4:00 PM and February 17th (all other events) starting at 3:30 PM. Both meets will take place at Ponder Junior High.
Is Your Student a Scout?
School Attendance
If your child is absent, please be sure and contact the school to let us know as well as send them with a note upon their return so we may "excuse" the absence.
Students who need to earn "seat time" due to excessive absences will need to report from 7:25 - 7:55 or 3:40 - 4:10 PM.
Please contact the front office should you have any questions!
Tatia Wilson, Secretary - twilson@boydisd.net
TCHATT Partners with BISD
Boyd ISD and your campus counselors have partnered with JPS to provide students who are experiencing a change in behavior or mood, thoughts of suicide or injury, or challenges in relationships, an opportunity to receive telemedicine services from a social worker, psychologist, mental health nurse practitioner, or child psychiatrist through their Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine Program (TCHATT).
TCHATT is a free, time-limited service for Boyd students in need of urgent behavioral or emotional assessment and care. Families will consent, receive an assessment, and then be provided up to four sessions focused on the outcome of the assessment.
If you would like more information, or have questions about how your student could benefit from this service, please contact your campus counselor.
Volunteers Always Welcome!
We are always looking for school volunteers to help throughout the school! If you are interested, please contact Tatia Wilson in the front office. All volunteers must submit and pass a background check to work in the school.
Resources for Bullying
What is the legal definition of bullying?
Bullying intentional act that causes harm to others, and may involve verbal harassment, verbal or non-verbal threats, physical assault, stalking, or other methods of coercion such as manipulation, blackmail, or extortion. It is aggressive behavior that intends to hurt, threaten or frighten another person. An imbalance of power between the aggressor and the victim is often involved. Bullying occurs in a variety of contexts, such as schools, workplaces, political or military settings, and others.

Student Dress Code for 2021-2022
Dress Code
Dress and Grooming (All Grade Levels)
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
The District prohibits:
1. Pictures, emblems, or writing on clothing articles or person that contains sexual innuendo, are lewd, offensive, vulgar, obscene, or are gang related.
2. Advertisement or depiction of tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other prohibited substance on clothing.
3. Shorts, skirts, skorts or other apparel that is shorter than the fingertips in grades 4‐12 when standing with arms hanging loosely to the sides.
4. Clothing that is appropriate for athletics but is not appropriate for the classroom.
5. Students in grades 6-12 from wearing wind shorts, “soffe” shorts, or shorts of similar material.
6. Student in grades 6-12 from wearing clothing made of spandex (i.e. jeggings, leggings, yoga pants, tights, etc.) or similar materials not covered by a skirt, shirt or dress that is shorter than fingertip length when standing with arms hanging loosely to the sides.
7. Clothing that has holes or tears above fingertip length exposing skin.
8. Leather/spike accessories, ear gauges and visible body piercing (the only body piercing ornamentation allowed is jewelry in students’ ears). Clear spacers are allowed in the side of the nose only.
9. Headgear in any building during school hours at principal’s discretion.
10. Students grades 4‐12 tank tops or other garments resembling men’s undershirts. Sleepwear, pajamas or any clothing designed to be undergarments. Garments that have a width less than 2 ½ inches at the shoulder. Undergarments may not be exposed.
11. Tops exposing the midriff area. Halter tops, racer back, spaghetti strap tops or backless shirts or see through clothing.
12. Roller shoes or house shoes are not permitted at school. Shoes, sandals, or boots must be worn at all times and properly fastened.
If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student may be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day, until the problem is corrected, or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school. Repeated offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
