OCTOBER
FLL - First Lego League
There are three components to the competition:
1. Team work - Developing leaders that work well together, they are able to collaborate and get the job done. FLL calls this GRACIOUS PROFESSIONALISM
2. Robotics - Design, Build and Program a robot to complete the missions FLL has created for this year's competition.
3. The Project: the students must identify an area they would like to study (a topic), research it, teach it to themselves, and then develop a creative way (utilizing 21st century learning) to teach it to others. Then they must find an audience to present it to! A lot of great ideas and many directions to go... now we just need to make a class decision and get rolling!
There are many FLL sites to learn more about the missions and projects and we would love to have parents help with the robotics, missions or project. Please send me an email if you are interested in helping. It would be nice to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday or Sunday working on the missions. I know many of you have hectic schedules and we would have to coordinate a time. It is helpful for students to have a longer time period to get into the flow of thinking; 45 min just gets a started before we have to stop :)
We will also be choosing a team name and designing T-Shirts; let me know if you have a tshirt company that you use or would recommend. We want to keep the tshirt cost down.
Please let me know if you would like to help and we will coordinate a work time! I know these kids are capable of doing great things! I am excited to see their ideas, abilities and effort be put into action!!
Thanks for all of your support! Jill
