April's Boomerang: Reading for Pleasure

We had 80 nominees for April's Boomerang Asset: Reading for Pleasure sponsored by CB Cares Educational Foundation! However, we could only nominate one student for district consideration... We nominated Sophia S.. At any free moment, Sophia can be found reading a new book. As early as second grade, her interest in reading took off and since then there has never been a week where her family has visited the library less than two times! Reading is something she enjoys with the whole family, whether engaging in book discussions with her parents, reading aloud to her siblings, or attending a book talk with Seamus McGraw on his nonfiction piece about the fracking debate. She is a role model and an endless resource of reading advice, especially for her younger sister. She was a member of our Reading Olympics team and read almost every book on the list. Her vocabulary in her written work benefits due to the ever-increasing amount of words at her disposal. She makes connections between the content in the classroom, current events, history, and what she has read. It is a pleasure seeing Sofia gain so much from reading and sharing it with her classmates. Currently, Sophia enjoys a wide range of reading genres, flipping constantly between fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. She never misses a National Geographic issue, and her goal is to read Dante's Divine Comedy.

Dorney Park Adjudication

Congratulations to all of our musicians and teachers who traveled to Dorney Park for adjudication last Friday. TMS students earned ALL superior ratings and first place standings. Students who received commendations for their solos were: Riley C., Amelia S., David B., Chelsea H., Tyler G., and Francesca T.. You can see below that the collection of trophies that our students brought home is impressive. More impressive, however, is the dedication of our music students and staff each day, all year long. We are so proud of you!

Keystone Algebra Tests: May 13 & 14

NJHS Induction

On Thursday night we inducted 127 students to the Tamanend Middle School National Junior Honor Society. TMS Alumna, Cassandra C., addressed the inductees sharing with them just how the TMS Honor Society opportunities for leadership and service have benefited her. The NJHS Officers led the inductees through a symbolic lighting ceremony. We thank Sra. Mars and Sra Murray for their dedication to the selection process, induction ceremony, and all NJHS functions and opportunities throughout the year.

Civil War Life Simulation

The 8th graders experienced a little of what soldiers did to prepare and survive during the Civil War. Students practiced regimental drilling, tried their hand at "town ball" - a game that was played to pass the time between battles, and problem-solved their way through the proper way to "tent."

Tamanend's New Web Page

Our new web page goes live today. We will still continue to use our old page, but you can enjoy checking out the new look and accessibility. One feature that we are sure you will love is the ability to filter the CB calendars (district and schools) that you follow into one calendar for your family to reference.
