What is the issue/cause that your charity supports?
All Hands Volunteers is a non-profit organization that supports people affected by natural disasters. They set up projects around the world to help restore destroyed homes and properties.”A disaster is an extremely unfortunate event that affects many individuals.”(World Book Encyclopedia, Volume D-5). According to the book Responding to Emergencies, 75,000 people are killed each year by natural disasters. 200 million more are affected. Some volunteers in this charity respond to people injured, while others clean up and rebuild homes. Charity workers play a big part in people surviving right after disaster strikes.
The impact of natural disasters has a huge effect on the world. Hurricane Sandy recently ripped through the east coast, destroying thousands of homes. All Hands Volunteers quickly responded by providing medical support. They are currently running projects in Long Island New York, to get families back home. If these problems were not addressed, the community would still be destroyed and people would have to restart their lives.
What does your charity do for the community?
“...by supporting volunteers with housing, meals, tools, and work at no charge…” This mission statement shows how All Hands Volunteers cares about their workers. They feel that if people are willing to volunteer time like this, they should be rewarded. The charity helps people affected by natural disasters by providing them with meals, shelter, and medical care. This is very important because without the help from charities, many people would have to live without a house, food, or maybe even family.
All Hands Volunteers is located in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. They have mostly rebuild or building projects. While a persons house is getting built, they are provided with shelter and meals. They provide hands on help to anyone in need. Volunteer options are very limited in this charity because most projects are rebuilds. Without the help of these volunteers, people could wait many, many years to get their house rebuilt.
How effective is this charity in accomplishing its goals?
All Hands Volunteers is a non-profit charity that has grown into one of the best Natural Disaster Response charities in the world (PR Newswire U.S.). In 2010 they only produced $1,225,536, but in three years they produced more than double the amount from before with a grand total of $3,605,732 (Charity Navigator). This is a large incline, and to add to that they are still making money (which will be used to help those in need) to this day. They accumulated 28,000 volunteers since their first project, and have had 1,008,949 hours donated by volunteers from seventy-seven different nationalities (hands.org). All Hands Volunteers is a organization that is able to help many people because of its size.
Since the beginning, All Hands Volunteers had a decent amount of Volunteers. They gained 11,015 volunteers in 2014 along, with fifty projects to date, and three-hundred and sixty-nine new homes built for the homeless, All Hands Volunteers is growing fast. They have also grown to do projects globally, and are willing to commit to any climate to help those in need. All Hands Volunteers has done projects in nine countries around the globe, and some as current as present day. As All Hands Volunteers grows it starts being able to help more places, and looking at how successful they are with projects right now they won't stop anytime soon (hands.org).
