Language Arts
- Reading: This week we read a story about Sacagawea, our focus was on identifying the main idea and supporting details in the biography. We also review visualizing as a reading strategy.
- Writing: We started working on a book review for one of the Battle of the Books.
- Grammar: We focused on abbreviations and onomatopoeias.
- Night at the Museum: Next week we will begin our biography project. Students should have selected an influential American figure to research.
Math
Social Studies and Mini-Society
This week, we learned about how specialization and division of labor increase productivity. Students worked in partners to read about these concepts, watch a video about crayons being produced and answered questions. We also learned about the circular flow model of economics. Students had to choose a downtown business that they would make a purchase from, and show how the money would eventually get back to them. This is a difficult concept, which will be revisited in later grades.
Mini-Society- We will be hosting our mini society on Wednesday. Students should bring their products to sell that day. We will be setting up in the cafeteria at 1:30, so if your child is selling food, you are welcome to come help set up then if necessary. Thank you for all of you help at home with this worthwhile project. I believe the kids have gained a better understanding of business through all of the work we did.
