Mrs. Senatore 2nd Grade 2015-2016

A message from Mrs. Senatore...

Dear Parents,

Longer and sometimes warmer days are a sign that the school year is flying. On February 2nd we will be celebrating 100 days of learning at Apollo. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement to me and your child. Looking forward to more days of learning and growing together.

Work on P 10, 12, 14, 17, 18, 19, and 20

We've been working on an Author study for a couple of weeks and will continue that this month. Our author is Steven Kellogg who is also an illustrator. The students love his stories about his dog Pinkerton, a Great Dane, who cannot seem to get his commands right but in the end always seems to save the day. Check out this website for a brief overview of his work.

We will continue to focus on opinion writing pieces. We focus on the writing process of prewriting, writing, drafting, revising, editing, teacher conference and publishing as we write each piece. Our main focus will be on revising or changing our pieces to reflect descriptive writing. We will use adjectives to describe nouns and begin studying the use of adverbs to enhance verbs.

Social Studies

Students will learn how goods are produced and distributed. Fun activities will be included in the lessons; assembling a toy, using body movements to represent four modes of transportation, and practicing assembly line techniques.
