Principal's Message
Dear Oak Hills Families,
It is such an exciting time at our school as we welcome new staff members. We have some wonderful people joining our Oak Hills Family next school year. Below are a few of the folks that will be joining our team:
Laura Manning -2nd Grade
Laura is an amazing teacher who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Oak Hills family. Laura received her BA in special education from Arizona State University in 1992. She taught in a special Education behavior programs for 7 years before she worked on her MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. After receiving her Master’s Degree, Laura taught in Tigard for one year and later moved to the Beaverton School District teaching at the Behavior Learning Center and also as a 1st, 1st/2nd multiage, and 2nd Grade teacher at Cedar Mill and Springville. Laura’s son graduated from Oak Hills and is a senior at Westview. She loved the experience her son had at Oak Hills and is very excited to join the Oaks Hills Team.
Matt Evans-5th Grade
Matt loves teaching because it gives him the chance to empower kids and help create a more equitable society. His passion for teaching started a few years ago while he was working as an instructional aide at a public Montessori school in Michigan. After working as an aide, he decided he wanted a classroom of his own, so he began and successfully completed a Masters of Arts in Teaching at University of Portland (UP). During his time at UP, he student-taught at Catlin Gabel and learned the importance of experiential and interdisciplinary learning. His knowledge of these practices has deepened this year while teaching 5th grade at Springville K-8. He can’t wait to apply what he has learned during these past experiences to empowering the 5th graders at Oak Hills next year.
Taylor Standridge-3rd Grade
Taylor grew up in Beaverton and then did her undergraduate program at Western Oregon University. She graduated with a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education in 2014. She received her MEd with an English as a Second Language Endorsement from WOU last summer. This past year she taught second grade at Montclair Elementary. She is beyond excited for third grade at Oak Hills. During her free time she loves to spend time with her family, cook and bake! She looks forward to meeting the Oak Hills community!
Jessica Baker-Library Media Assistant
Jessica graduated with a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences from Oregon State University, and has worked in a number of animal-focused jobs (a boarding kennel, an exotics-only vet, wildlife research) before transitioning into education as Sunset High School's Testing Coordinator. Additionally, she worked for two years at OSU's Valley Library helping library patrons with research, online databases and library information. In her spare time, she likes to read, watch TV, and hang out with her cat, Harper. Jessica is thrilled to be our Library Media Assistant and is ready to inspire our students about reading and literature.
In addition to these staff members, Emily Lee, who is currently our Lower ALC teacher, will be transitioning into our Kindergarten position. Unfortunately, we will also have to say our good-byes to our temporary teachers; Mrs. Jeffrey, Mrs. Hang, Mrs. Nice, and Mrs. Hunger. We hope to hire them back if we have additional openings in the near future. Mr. Ben, our custodian, and Mr. Debusk, our music teacher, will be leaving as they have decided to challenge themselves at the new elementary school opening in the fall.
We will keep you updated with staff changes as they happen. Thank you all for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Sheila Baumgardner
