Counselor's News
Parents of current 9th graders --- you should have received in the mail a copy of the courses that you/your student have chosen for next school year. Please, review this list. If these are the correct courses then no action is needed. If you would like to make any changes, please, indicate the changes on the course listing, sign the letter where indicated and either fax it in to your student’s counselor or have your student bring it in to the counseling office. The deadline for schedule changes is May 26. The fax number for the counseling office is 469-752-7315.
Schedule Change Deadline
Parents/Students --- Just a reminder that the deadline for schedule change requests for next school year at Clark or at Plano Senior is Friday, May 26, 2017.
SUMMER SCHOOL
If summer school is needed or wanted, we have several options:
1. A student can take a class, such as health or PE, to accelerate their credits and not have the class take up room in their future schedules. Classes are offered at Plano West this year, and transportation is available from Clark to Plano West. The counselor can pre-approve them now, and you can enroll them on-line. If you choose paper registration, your student can pick-up the packet in the Counseling Center. The counselor will sign to approve, and then you are able to mail registration and payment directly to Student Services/Summer School, Plano ISD, 2700 W. 15th St. Plano, TX 75075. The deadline for pre-enrollment by paper or online is 5/19/17. After the May 19 deadline, you will need to register/pay in person at Plano West on Thursday, June 8, between 8 AM and 12 noon for the class(es) your student would like to take.
2. If a student needs summer school to recover credit due to failing a course, counselors will be calling you after final grades are completed at the very end of the year to confirm the class, what the final grade was, and how to register. Classes are offered at Plano West this year, and transportation is available from Clark to Plano West. The parent and student must come to the Plano West cafeteria on Thursday, June 8 between 8 AM and 12 noon to both register and make payment.
3. If a student needs remediation in summer school due to not meeting standard on an EOC – STAAR test, and may or may not also need credit IN THAT SAME CLASS, they will be offered summer school at Clark HS. As soon as we have EOC score reports, counselors will call you with notification. These reports do not come to counselors until a few days prior to the end of school. It is a very quick turnaround and can feel late. If this summer school is needed, parents must attend the registration process at Clark HS on Tuesday, June 6, 1 PM – 4 PM. On-line registration and payment are not available for this option.
Dual Credit – Collin College U.S. History
The registration date for Collin College U.S. History is just around the corner. Registration for the class will open on April 18. The deadline for registration and payment is May 26.
If you haven’t started the process, these are the things that need to get done:
1. Apply to Collin College at https://apply.collin.edu (student and parent must do)
2. Take the TSI: (student must do)
Take the pre-assessment on-line
Print the certificate of completion
Pay the fee - $29.00
1. Go to Collin and take the actual TSI test
3. Counselors will turn in the High School Enrollment Permission Form and send your transcript
4. Turn in the Bacterial Meningitis Form to Collin College (student/parent) or bring it to your counselor and we will make sure it is turned in
5. Complete the mandatory Training on Sexual Violence (student must do)
6. Register for the class after April 18. Students will need the course and period number called the CRN number. That information is on the paperwork you received from your counselor.

Drug and Alcohol Prevention Information
N-BOMe, commonly referred to as “N-bomb” or “Smiles,” is a powerful synthetic hallucinogen sold as an alternative to LSD or mescaline (a hallucinogenic drug made from a cactus plant). In most cases students who refer to a drug as “acid” or “LSD” are actually talking about N-BOMe. This is an extremely dangerous drug!

School Policies and Procedures
ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE FOR 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR
Parent notes: A student has up to (3) three days after an absence to turn in a parent/doctor note in order to receive an excused absence. The not should include the students name, ID number, reason and dates of the absence. A parent call does not excuse the absence.
Leaving school ill: If a student becomes ill while at school, he/she should go to the nurse's office. The nurse will contact the parents. The student and parent must then sign out at the attendance office before leaving. A student should not call/text you from their cell phone to tell you they are sick and to pick them up. Cell phone use is not allowed during class time. We have a phone available for students in the front office.
Doctor/Dental appointments: If your student must leave school early, PLEASE send a note with him/her to that he/she can be released from class. The student can sign out and wait for you in the front office. A doctor's note is required when the student returns to school. The state requires us to have a doctor's note when a student is gone for an appointment.
Other absences: Non-School activities must be pre-approved by the principal in order for the student to make up missed work. The Student Absence Request Form is available in the front office and on the Clark website in the FORMS section. The form needs to be filled out and turned in to the attendance office at least a week before the absence.
REMEMBER - NOTES CAN PREVENT UNEXCUSED ABSENCES!
