Red Ribbon Week
HELP OUR COMMUNITY BY GIVING TO OTHERS
Kearney Key Club is honored to collaborate with many students and organizations across Kearney Public Schools to collect food for the Jubilee Center and the Kearney High Food Pantry.
Horizon, Sunrise, Meadowlark, and Kenwood will be gathering food donations from their students and parents starting the week of October 26th, ending on October 30th. These schools are instilling purpose and understanding in their students by teaching them to give to others in need and to appreciate the comforts they enjoy.
Kearney High Key Club, FBLA, and FCCLA will be collecting the donations on October 30th. The evening of the 30th these clubs will be dressed in costume from 3:45 – 6:30pm at the following locations:
Horizon
Sunrise
Kenwood
These clubs are asking the community to Scare Away the Hunger and use these locations to drive-thru and drop-off non-perishable food items. Kearney is extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to give back to the community.
Thank you for being a supportive community and have a great fall!

END OF 1ST QUARTER
I also want to ask for your help. When your child is at home, please try to get some of the schoolwork that they've missed so when they come back, they don't feel overwhelmed with late work on top of their daily work. School can be a fun place if we all work together. Contact your child's teacher if you have questions. They want to help.
On Monday, October 19th, we will have our 1st Quarter Assembly via Zoom. We will recognize Quarterly Cool Cats, Golden Awards for classes, attendance recognition, and we will hear from our local Hyvee employees about our Hyvee Fit School Wellness Week. Although we are sad we cannot do this in person, we are grateful to be able to be in school and use zoom to bring us altogether.

BREAKFAST CHANGES
Breakfast served from 7:45-8:00
For students who come late, breakfast may be over so please make sure your child eats breakfast if they are not to school by 8:00. Even arriving at 8:00, school begins at 8:05 so eating a late breakfast may be interfering with their learning, If your child is eating at school, please make sure to have them there at 7:45 so this allows them time to eat and clean up before school begins at 8:05 AM. The teachers and I appreciate your support and cooperation in this matter.
FLU SHOTS--OCTOBER 6TH
KENWOOD PTO FUNDRAISER
PTO Fundraiser deadline is this Tuesday, October 6th
This year we are selling chocolates, snacks, gift wrap, jewelry, candles and a whole lot more!
Orders can be shipped directly to the customer or to the school for your family to help deliver. You and your family will have to register online and then you can share your shopping link with family and friends!
FIRE PREVENTION WEEK-OCT 4-11
The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department is excited to share their 2020 Fire Prevention message to "Serve up Fire Safety in the Kitchen". While presenting this year's program virtually is not ideal, they feel like the children in our community will still learn some great tips this year. The KFVD has provided teachers links for the 2 separate programs they prepared. After Fire Prevention Week is over, the Grade 1-5 program will be shared via their website and social media pages for all to enjoy.
For the younger kids, have a discussion about items in your home about "Not hot or might be hot". This could be a fun game to engage the kids. For all age groups, it's always good to discuss:
- Having working smoke detectors
- Testing smoke detectors monthly
- Changing smoke detector batteries twice a year
- Having and practicing a fire escape plan
- Having a meeting place
- Knowing who to call if you have an emergency (911)
Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out.
