A Message from Principal Nixon--May 24, 2021
Dear Northwoods Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! As you know, we are just a few weeks away from the end of the school year. There's a lot happening between now and then, so please make sure to read through the information below.
As many of you already saw, I was covered in ice cream toppings last Friday as a reward for surpassing our fundraising goal! For those of you who didn't get to watch the live stream, I've included a short link to the video below.
Other than that, I would like to remind everyone that, in observance of Memorial Day, we will not have school on Monday, May 31st. On behalf of the Northwoods staff, I would like to personally thank all of the men and women in our community who have served on behalf of our country. Your sacrifice is deeply appreciated!!
Respectfully,
Joe Nixon

School Information
Non-Returning Family Survey:
It is essential that we know which students will NOT be returning for the 21-22 school year so that we can move students off of our waitlist. Please take a few minutes to complete the short survey linked below for each Kindergarten - 4th-grade child in your family who WILL NOT be attending Northwoods for the 21-22 school year.
End-of-Year Material Return:
All instructional materials (calculators, novels, math manipulative kits, etc.) that have been distributed to students throughout the year must be returned to school by May 27th. For your convenience, we have prepared a list of materials that should be returned for each grade level. Please see the list below.
Families who are planning to move outside of Wake County and/or NC must return all district-issued Chromebooks and hotspots prior to leaving.
Important: All Students Will Receive Free School Meals For the 2021-22 School Year
Breakfast and lunch will be available at no cost to students for the 2021-22 school year. While the district may be able to offer free meals to all students, it is very important for eligible parents to complete a meal benefits application because this data enables schools to obtain funding to provide other important educational resources to benefit students. Other benefits that are issued directly to families that have applied and are eligible for meal benefits may also be available (such as the P-EBT cash benefit). Parents can complete a meal benefits application online at myschoolapps.com. Paper applications also are available at all schools. More: www.wcpss.net/free-reduced-meals.
Important: No More Changes to VA/F2F Assignments for 21-22:
Please be advised that we can no longer accept parent requests to switch students to/from VA/F2F for next year. Current student placements within the Virtual Academy or in-person instruction are considered final. Changes will no longer be allowed so that we can begin the process of class planning.
End of Grade Testing for Face-to-Face Students
EOG Testing for Face-to-Face students began today (Monday, May 24th). Please see the information below. Be advised, we made some adjustments to the dates that our 4th and 5th-grade students will test.
Arrival and Dismissal on Test Days:
Please ensure your child arrives on campus between 8:45-9:15. Because testing sessions are considered secure, tardy students will not be permitted to join a testing session once testing has started. Tardy students will be placed in a non-testing setting until their class has completed testing for the day. At that time, they may join their classroom for the remainder of the day. They will be scheduled to take the make-up test for the test that they missed.
End-of-Year Celebrations/Activities
Save the Date: May 26th
Please mark your calendars because we have several important events (virtual field day, material return, and Boosterthon prize-pick-ups) happening on Wednesday, May 26th.
- Virtual Field Day--Our specialist team is putting together a variety of fun games/activities that students of all ages can complete at home with commonly found items/materials on May 26th. Your child's teacher will post the activities closer to that date.
- Material Return Day--Don't forget: Students must turn in ALL supplies that have been distributed throughout the year by May 26th. Material drop-off will run from 8:00 - 5:00 PM. Please see the 2020-21 Material Return List for a complete list (with pictures) of items that should be returned.
- Boosterthon Prize Pick-up: Students who logged in and/or earned pledges during our DanceFit Fundraiser may pick up their prizes on May 26th from 8:00 - 5:00 PM.
End of Year Parades: Just like last year, we will be conducting two separate end-of-year parades to close out the 2020-21 school year. Both parades will take place on the morning of June 11th (rain or shine). Please see the informational flyers below for details.
