Thinking about going to college? Do these things now!
Create a Common Application
Commonapp.org
Link your college app to your naviance account (putting a college on naviance does NOT mean you applied!)
Apply directly to the college through their college website if they are not on common app.
Talk to your parents about their taxes. You will need their taxes (and yours too if you work) in order to get financial aid in college. If your parents (or you) haven’t filed your taxes yet, do it ASAP!
Talk to at least two teachers to request a letter of recommendation

Attention All WYHS Students!
Rev. Nelson Copeland Jr., of www.CollegeVisitation.org has been giving college tours to kids for 30 years. We are adapting to the new normal and have come up with an idea to bring college to interested high school kids starting on Monday, September 14, 2020 . Check out the parameters and let me know if you are interested.
● "Live" college visitations and virtual presentations will include Ivy/Elite, HBCU, State and Trade/Vocational colleges. As possible, we will also introduce gender-specific, military, faith-based, online and work-toward-degree colleges.
● Workshop leaders will be contracted CECAAL and College Visitation, Inc., staff, along with current and former college admission officers, adult monitors and essay proofreaders, researchers, success, education and life coaches, including college students and recent graduates who will "on" and off-line" give mentorship to the student during this training semester.
● We will learn about educational and financial success alternatives to college.
● 11 week program from Wednesday, September 30 to Thursday, December 10, 2020.
● Target ages are 14-18 by 09/30/20. We may accept 13 and 19 year olds if an impact case can be made.
● Registration BEGINS at www.CollegeVisitation.org on Monday, September 14, 2020. (Capacity 500 students).
● Registration ENDS on Saturday, October 3, 2020. (Late registrations can be denied or waitlisted). All registrants will be verified and/or interviewed, by email, phone or via a virtual conversation before participation is allowed.
● Total cost is $30.00 per child (for everything, incl. any assignments). The real value is $97.00 reduced this one time in honor of our 30th Anniversary to $30.00.
● The parents and guardians can attend sessions at no additional cost. However, some sessions will be student only.
● The start time will be 7:00pm (Eastern) to make space for a nationwide audience. 7:00pm (EST) is consistent with 6:00pm (CST), 5:00pm (MST) and 4:00pm (PST). Each session will last 1-2 hours each. International registrants must comply with our start/end times.
● Workshops most weeks are Mon-Wed (but one week each month will require an added Thursday commitment).
● We call this "Basic Training" as we want to help first generation college goers, those "clueless" to the total college process and those who just want a refresher course.
● If after your second attended workshop you discover, we're not for you, we will give you your money back.
● Students not meeting attendance and assignment completion requirements can be removed, delayed or halted without a refund. Those links will be sent only to those approved to attend.
● Students successfully completing the virtual semester will receive a Certificate of Completion.
WHERE DOES THE STUDENT PAY AND HOW CAN I SPONSOR A STUDENT'S $30.00 FEE?
The short answer is at www.CollegeVisitation.org beginning Monday. There will be a registration area (for student registrants) and a donation area for those who just want to sponsor a student or give any amount.
