Note from Administration
In this newsletter, you will find A LOT of information that will be pertinent for the next few weeks. Please read through it carefully. Some of it will apply to your family and your choice of learning environment and some will not. Please read the newsletter in its entirety to make sure that you don't miss any sections that apply to you.
We will post this newsletter to our website in addition to helpful videos, including a partial recording of our Q&A session this afternoon.
If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Petty office. We are happy to assist you. (847)838-8101.
The coming weeks will be an adjustment for all of our families and staff. We are appreciative for your continued flexibility and grace as we all acclimate to our new learning environments. It will get smoother. We are here to partner with you, and we are thankful for your contribution to this transition.
Please let us know how we can best support you.
Respectfully,
Joanna Gerritsen and Jared Reardon

Transportation Information
You should have received Transportation information to your email today.
*It is vitally important that you check that information for where your child is being dropped off at the end of the day.
If your child's drop off location is incorrect, it is very important you call the office as soon as possible at (847) 838-8101. You may leave a voicemail if you are calling outside of regular business hours.
* Please note that our dismissal times and when your child arrives home may be delayed as we get the first couple of weeks under our belts.
* If there are any changes to transportation for your child for a particular day (you are picking them up instead of them riding the bus), please let the office know as soon as possible so we can make sure your child goes to the correct location at the end of the day.
IMPORTANT DROP OFF AND PICK-UP INFORMATION: TRAFFIC FLOW
Arrival
Student drop-off in the morning will begin at 8:20am.
NO STUDENTS SHOULD EXIT THEIR VEHICLE BEFORE A STAFF MEMBER COMES TO LET YOUR CHILD OUT OF THE CAR
A staff member will come to your car to ensure that your child has the SELF-CERTIFICATION slip filled out and with them (for the first day you will be provided with a digital copy of that slip to either print and fill, or you will need to handwrite the same information on a piece of paper). More information on certification slips will be listed below
Please follow the arrows on the map to travel through the parking lot safely.
Please adhere to all stop signs in the parking lot and at the entrance from Tiffany Farms.
Dismissal
For the first day of picking your child up, please bring a sign with you that indicates your child's first and last name in large letters.
If your child is a regular parent pick-up, you will receive a laminated sign you can use each day for the rest of the school year.
Please make sure to have that sign with you for each pick-up
Students will not be released prior to 11:30 am. It is advised that you DO NOT enter the parking lot area any earlier than 11:20 am.
SELF-CERTIFICATION SLIPS ARE REQUIRED FOR EVERY CHILD EVERY DAY!
SELF-CERTIFICATION SLIPS
In-person students will be bringing home a pad of self-certification slips for you to use. These slips must be filled out EVERY DAY prior to your child arriving, whether they are arriving via bus, car or walking. These slips will be collected every day.
For the first day of in-person attendance, families will need to either PRINT and FILL OUT the slip shown and linked below - OR - write on a piece of paper the same information that is contained on the slip to turn in.
Slips must be signed by a parent or guardian each day in order for students to attend.
We are doing this for the safety of all of our students, families, and staff. We appreciate your partnership in helping to ensure the safety of our Petty community and all its members.
As a secondary measure, all students will also have their temperature taken via our touchless thermal thermometers or a handheld touchless thermometer. Please note - if your child is wearing a winter hat or many articles of clothing over their hands or arms, we may need to retake their temperature once those items have been removed to get a more accurate temperature that does not reflect the warmth of the clothing.
Use the Red Buttons Below for Self-Certification Information
Classrooms & Offices
Students should follow their teacher's instructions on entering and leaving the classroom.
Students and staff need to sanitize their hands when they enter and leave a classroom or office.
There is a wall mounted hand sanitizer dispenser in every classroom.
Students can hang their coats and backpacks off the back of their desk chair.
Students should have a backpack or drawstring bag to carry their materials.
Important Attendance Procedures
If your child will not be in attendance for either in-person or remote instruction for any reason, you must call them in to our Attendance Line (847) 838- 8181.
If your child is scheduled to attend in-person for the day but cannot report to the building due to symptoms, they may still participate remotely if they are able. You only need to report absences if your child will not be participating remotely OR in-person.
Materials to Bring
- 2 masks: 1 mask to wear and 1 mask for back-up.
- A water bottle that will remain with your child throughout the time they are at school.
- A fully charged iPad (they will still need to access assignments and their specials classes through this device.)
- A set of headphones to utilize when they are using their device for specials or some small group instructional sessions. If you have headphones with a microphone, that is recommended.
- A pencil pouch or box that will contain pencils, a personal sharpener, and any other supplies that will be needed (crayons, scissors, etc.). Teachers will be communicating specific needs for this with you individually as needs will vary based upon grade levels.
COVID or Health Related Questions
SPECIALS CHANGE
Please note that some of your child's specials will be changing. One of the two Music classes per week will be considered asynchronous, and your child's Music teacher will be pushing out a recorded lesson for them to go through. In addition, 3 of the 5 PE classes will also be asynchronous with recorded lessons being pushed out to students on those days.
The days that your child will be having synchronous or asynchronous PE or Music will be communicated by your child's classroom teacher. On the synchronous days, they will be joining a live Zoom session as they have in the past. On the asynchronous lesson days, your child will be directed to go to their Seesaw or Google Classroom platform to access their lesson for the day.
Technology Difficulties While Remote?
If your child is experiencing technical difficulties while they are learning from home, you will be able to fill out a TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT TICKET. You will no longer report it to their teacher. Here is the link to the form: W.C. Petty Elementary Tech Trouble Ticket Submission
You can also find this link on our district webpage under the technology department heading. (Technology Resources and Support page)
When filling out this ticket, please provide as much specific information as you are able to about the nature of your problem so that we can quickly assist you.
Materials Pick-Up
All students, whether in-person or remote, will still receive curricular supplies.
In-person students will receive their materials in their classrooms from their teachers.
Remote students will still need to pick-up their materials at Petty; however, the pick-up location will not be at the main entrance. Please note the following procedural changes for picking up the materials for remote students:
Pick-up date: Thursday, January 21st
Times: 9:00 am - 11:00 am and 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Please bring a sign with your child or children's first and last names.
Food Services
Our food services department has sent out information about continuing our free lunch program. There are two categories that your child could fall under.
1. Students attending for the day in-person at Petty will be able to order a lunch in the morning and will bring it home with them at dismissal.
2. If your child is attending remotely, you should have already filled out the lunch request form with our food services department. You will be able to pick up their lunches at the front of Petty from 11:45 am - 12:30 pm. You will pull into the bus lane and hold up a sign with your child/ren's names. Someone will bring the lunch out to you. If you arrive before 11:45, you will not be able to enter the bus lane. You will be asked to park in the lot until all buses have left for day.
If you have any questions regarding the lunch program or on ordering lunches for your remote children, please contact our food services manager, Julie. jbyczek@antioch34.com
