Schoology Tools for Formative and Summative Assessments
Assessing students is not just about numbers in a gradebook, but informing the teacher and the student where they are in the learning process. Finding means of assessing student learning which provide timely feedback can be challenging. Schoology does provide assessment resources for you. Many of these are auto-graded. Some can be a combination of auto- and manually graded assessments. Have you tried any of these, yet?
As you add materials to your Resources and your Courses, you'll see that there is a"Tests/Quiz" option and an "Assessment" option. Whether or not you're new to Schoology, you may be wondering which one to use. In our 20Learn Educators group, there is an Assessments folder containing examples of every question type and descriptions of the Test/Quiz and Assessments tools. Included here are some descriptions. Below, you’ll find some images providing additional descriptions, features, and benefits.
This is Schoology's legacy assessment creation tool. If you imported a Question Bank from ALEC, you'll use this assessment feature.
This choice allows for feedback on question types.
Yes, you can send your Test/Quiz assessments to the Assessments assessment tool.
This is Schoology's new assessment creation tool.
Assessments created here can be imported into Schoology's Asssessment Management Platform (AMP). AMP is a platform within Schoology that will be used at the District level for common assessment reporting and other high stakes tests.
Assessments contains a broader choice of question types. Assessments is only available in the Enterprise version. This is new to previous Basic (free) users.
Not all question types from Test/Quiz are importing into Assessments the way Schoology would like at the moment. That is why both assessment creation options are available right now. Anticipate the Tests/Quiz option to sunset within the next year.
In case you missed it...
We'd like to make sure you're informed about the current email discussion: Google or MSA? Which should we be using?
Students are being asked to login to 20Learn/Schoology using the email address ID#@msa.asd20.org. While some of you may be familiar with this email address, many are asking where this email came from and if you’re supposed to start using it with students. These are great questions!
The msa.asd20.org student emails are part of our district Microsoft account and are linked to our active directory. The “msa” in the email stands for “my student account.” Since these email addresses are associated with active directory, students need to use them in order to login to our secure Schoology domain.
Does this mean that we need to start using the MSA email accounts with our students for communication and class assignments? No, it doesn’t. Please continue with your current email practice and use the tool that is best for your site and your community.
Whether it’s the Gmail (ID#@student.asd20.org) or the MSA (ID#@msa.asd20.org), we encourage you to be consistent throughout your school and communicate with your community which tools you are using.
