Dr. Pamela Parker
To give you a bit of background on me, I have a PhD in General Psychology from Walden University. I have over 20 years’ experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing individual, family, and group therapy in a variety of settings: private practice, residential programs, community-based agencies, and psychiatric hospitals across the United States. Currently, I reside in a small town in North Carolina with two dogs and two cats. I have a private practice as a psychotherapist where I see children, teens and adults. My website is www.compasshousecounselingnc.com
Andy Bandy is a rescue dog who likes to sleep under the covers and spend his days with his sister Cali.
Cali moved in next door to me and was often on a leash. After a while, I talked her owners into letting me have her and now Cali is never on a leash.
Dr. Pamela Parker
I have lived in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Vermont, New Hampshire, Kentucky, and now in North Carolina. I like the beach, swimming, camping, and reading fiction.

Welcome to your Psychology Online course.
As your instructor, I will be assisting you throughout the course. I am excited that we will be exploring the topics as outlined in the tracking calendar for the next 7.5 weeks! Please make sure you review both the course syllabus and this welcome notes to ensure you understand the late policy, course outcomes, required media, and the list of additional resources required reading. As well, please be sure to review the tracking calendar so you are able to develop a schedule that will ensure you complete all assignments on time.
The RCO late assignment policy permits instructors to allow late submissions of assignments up to 3 days past the due date, while arrangements may also be made for further extensions.
My late policy is to allow students to submit assignments up to 4 days late with a 5 point per day late penalty. While the penalty is the motivation to help students minimize late submissions, there are times when excepts have to be made and arrange for students to have even further extensions. Please make sure you reach out to me in advance when you know you will need an extension. Remember, extensions are for exceptional reasons only.
Please feel free to ask questions about this policy.
My Approach to Teaching
My philosophy of teaching is based on Vygotsky’s philosophy of learning which is founded on the premise that we construct meaning and develop an understanding of the world we live in through an accommodation of making sense of our experiences. As an instructor of an introductory psychology course, my main objective is to provide fundamental knowledge and tools applicable to the student’s ability to develop an understanding of the world around them and the people in it. I will achieve this objective through teaching them critical thinking skills.
I will be online every Tuesday evening from 8:00pm to 10:00pm (EST). Let's use Collaboration chat as our primary communication method throughout the course. If you want to set up an appointment outside of office hours, send me an email and be sure to include the requested day, time and appointment method (email; phone). I will do my best to meet your requested appointment time.
A hallmark of my teaching style is close, personal contact with my students. I believe you will find my approach to virtual office hours to be a warm, friendly way to connect with each other.
