College Exploration

Students should start narrowing down their choices for plans after high school during their Junior year. Here are our suggestions for exploring both career and colleges :

(click on the titles to go to the websites)

1. Nebraska Career Connections - offers many different ways for students and parents to search for career information. There are also different inventories or surveys for students to take to guide students in their career information.

2. Education Quest - Education Quest is a non profit organization whose purpose is to help schools and families find college information. They provide many different tools to help. I do want to highlight two:

  • Countdown2College - parents and students can sign up for emails to update them and provide suggestions for them as they prepare for college.
  • College Profiles - This tool allows students to select different criteria they are looking for in a college. Then, College Profiles will provide a list of colleges that fit that criteria. You can then click on the name of the college and find all kinds of information about that college.
3. NHS College Planning Website - this is a website created by Norfolk Senior High's Counseling Center to provide helpful information to our students and parents. There are checklists, college exploration information, scholarship information, Federal Student Aid information and more.

College Visits

Click here to go to a page on the College Planning Website that has college visit information on it.

College visits are an excellent way for students to see what a college is like. NHS College Access Grant sponsors some college visits throughout the year. Two upcoming events are posted below. Another way to find out about college visits is to click on the button above. There is a calendar with many college visit opportunities listed. If you click on the visit you are interested in, it will give you a link to register for the event. You can also go to the college websites for information of college visit opportunities and to register for a college visit. There are many college visit days specifically for Juniors during the spring months.
