A Message from the Principal
As the school year gets underway, it seems the days just increase in speed! Children are already back in the swing, and teachers are working diligently to make sure students understand expectations and are appropriately challenged academically in the classroom. We are getting to know new students and reuniting with experienced Hillside Tigers. I am reminded each day why I am grateful that I get to do this job: Hillside students and their families make this school The Place to Be.
In a few weeks, Hillside will host an Open House night. This is a time for students to come to Hillside with their parents or guardians to show some of the things they have been working on the first month of school. It is a time for families to learn a bit about what we are teaching here and to see the products of the first several weeks of hard work.
We originally thought we would have a parent/guardian curriculum night this past week; we changed our minds when we realized that students love their school and want to be involved in informing their trusted adult regarding what is happening here at Hillside! So we decided to create a time for families to take a look at learning and curriculum in a different way.
Please join us for an Open House night on Thursday, September 15, from 6:00-6:45 p.m. Tour your student's classroom, ask questions, and appreciate all that has happened in the first month of school. Teachers will provide you with information about some of the materials we use and about what students are learning.
At 6:45 p.m., Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. McGuire will give a safety presentation in the cafeteria to inform you regarding safety procedures and updates to our building. We will also give a brief review of the Standard Response Protocol used in schools throughout our district.
We hope you will join us at Open House on Thursday, September 15, starting at 6:00 p.m.

6th Grade Parent Meeting on September 15 from 5:30-6:00 p.m.
6th grade parents, please join the 6th grade teaching team for a brief presentation regarding 6th grade and the Hillside experience for current sixth graders. This is also a time you can ask this experienced teaching team questions you might have about this last year of elementary school and beyond. The 6th grade teachers, Mr. Folchert, Mr. Benedetto, and Mr. Turner, will have a range of topics and information for you.
Student Dress Code for Westside Community Schools

At this time of year, we are seeing, in particular, midriff tops on girls and tank tops on boys that would be better worn on the weekends! Thank you for taking a minute to re-read the dress code!
Mobile Clinic Available from One World
Westside is welcoming the One World Mobile Clinic to various locations in the district. The phone number families will call to schedule an appointment is (402) 880-4870. The mobile clinic is available to the staff of Westside Community Schools as well to students and their families.

Community Club Needs YOU!
This year, Community Club will work to create some times for the Hillside community to get together; we will also have a separate committee to work on fundraising. The first meeting of Hillside's Community Club will be Thursday, September 1, at 6:00 p.m. in Hillside's conference room. We hope to see you there. Please see below for some important information regarding Community Club!
On September 1, we will be planning the Hillside Family Picnic! We hope to see you at the meeting.
