From the Principal:
Hello Dorr Families,
Happy Spring!! It is that time of year when we welcome our NEW LITTLE WILDCATS for the 2023-24 school year!
On April 19, 2023 from 6:00-7:00 pm Dorr Elementary is hosting a Y5/K Roundup. If you have a student who will be in Y5 or K next year please join us with your student to see classrooms, gather information and walk the building with your little wildcat!
Registration for Y5/K students is open! Please visit the district website for information or call the Dorr office for guidance.
If you know of someone who has a child that could be a Y5 or K student next year please spread the word of Dorr’s “Roundup” on April 19th and registration. Your help is appreciated.
Go Cats,
Mrs. Seniura
Distinguished Artist
Dorr Elementary has a Distinguished Artist Program in which student artwork is on
display like an art gallery for the school year. Each year 9 students are chosen as a
Distinguished Artist. The distinguished artist is a student who is responsible in art,
shows their creativity and works hard on all projects. Ms. Corcoran chooses 3 to 4
pieces of artwork in which the students followed directions and completed the
project adding their creativity. A committee of staff members then votes on the
projects to choose the winner.
Congratulations Erik Afton!
In second grade class we studied the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh.
We looked at his paintings of sunflowers. Students learned how to
draw a cylinder shape for the vase. Students then added their
sunflowers. We used oil pastels and watercolor to finish our artwork.
Erik’s painting turned out beautifully. His use of color is very striking.
Erik always takes his time in art and does his best work. Erik is always
polite and kind to others. Thank you Erik for doing such a wonderful
job in art!

Happening In The Halls
Third Grade Music Concert
Our Third Graders put on a wonderful music concert this week. Students have been working so hard and were proud to showcase their talents to family and friends. A special thanks to Mr. Truswell for putting together an amazing show and for teaching our students to love music!
Volunteers Are Like Family!
Every Friday Mrs. Hudson's Kindergarten class welcome "Grammy June", as they affectionally call her, to the class as a volunteer. She helps the students with their work, hangs their artwork in the halls, makes copies for the teacher and more! She was recently able to read the class a story. We love all our volunteers at Dorr Elementary! You make our family complete!
Now Enrolling 2023-24 Preschool Students!
Preschool Enrollment for 2023-24
Wayland Union Schools Preschool will begin taking admissions for three and four year old tuition preschool students for the 2023-2024 school year. Enrollment will be on a first come first serve basis beginning February 27, 2023 at 9:00am where a link to a pre-admission form will be placed on the district website. Families of existing preschool students and WUS families and staff will receive this link earlier in February to allow for priority enrollment. Discounted rates are offered for families living in the WUS district thanks to the Gun Lake Casino revenue.
The district will offer both 3 and 4 year old programs at Baker and Dorr Elementary Schools. Students need to turn 3 or 4 by September 1, 2023 and be toilet trained. Both half and extended day options will be available for four year olds and half day options for three year olds.
A new, online admission and billing system called Brightwheel will be implemented to make it easier for parents to register, make monthly payments, and receive communications from teachers.
For more details, please visit our website and find the pre-admission link on the homepage or go to “Departments>Early Childhood>Preschools” to learn more. Questions can be directed to Laurie Zywiczynski, Director of Early Childhood, at lauriez@waylandunion.org.
