Message from our Principals

During our August Professional Days, the staff worked to prepare support in the event that we would all need to go virtual again. We have adapted that work to help support students who are isolated or quarantined for temporary distance learning. This document shows step by step directions of how you can see the supports that we have developed. Also, on the last page, you can find a series of questions that you can ask your child to help them be an engaged and independent learner, whether the students are in person, virtual or in isolated/quarantined learning. Please know that if your child is too ill to learn, we would not expect them to complete the work until they are well. Feel free to work with the individual teacher if you believe the expectations need to be modified. We will continue to post this Distance Learning for Parents document in our parent newsletters for future reference.

In our early weeks of school, our teachers have acquainted students with Google classroom and the rolling agendas that they have made for their classes with the goal of preparing them for transitioning to distance learning, if needed.

Your principals,

Linda O’Bryan and John McEwing

Picture Days

This year, school pictures will occur Wednesday 9/30 and Thursday 10/1 during the school day. Grades 6 & 8 will have pictures taken on Wednesday 9/30, and grades 5 & 7 will be Thursday 10/1. In-person students will be scheduled by homerooms.

Pictures can be ordered online, now through October 8th Click Here, go to school search and use the drop down menu to select “Lake Denoon Middle School 2020-2021”. From there follow the instructions to complete picture ordering. Sports Pics will send your child’s picture order directly to your home.

Infinite Campus Attendance Messaging

At the beginning of each month, you will receive an email from Infinite Campus detailing your student’s attendance for the current school year. All families will be receiving this email even if their child has not been absent from school. This email is intended to be a communication between school and home. If you have any questions or extenuating circumstances that impact your child’s attendance, please contact Amanda Rosman, School Social Worker at amanda.rosman@muskegonorway.org or 414-524-9117.

Appointments/Early Pick-ups for Students

Students who need to leave school during the school day must have written parental permission. Please have your student drop off the written excuse at the Student Services window first thing in the morning. By late morning, your child should stop back and a pass will be on the window ready for them. With this pass, the student can leave the classroom at the time they are to be picked up, and the office staff can avoid interrupting learning by calling into the rooms. Please do not email teachers with attendance. All attendance goes through Student Services.

News Just for our Virtual Students

Virtual Learner's Picture Day

Virtual students should plan on coming to school between either 8:15-11:15 AM or between 12:00-2:00 PM on the day when their grade is scheduled and report to the main office, where staff will direct them to their picture location. Grades 6 & 8 will have pictures taken on Wednesday 9/30, and grades 5 & 7 will be Thursday 10/1. To minimize exposure, people accompanying our virtual students are welcome to wait either in the vestibule of the front entrance or under the overhang just outside the main entrance to meet their student after the picture is taken.

Pictures can be ordered online, now through October 8th Click Here, go to school search and use the drop down menu to select “Lake Denoon Middle School 2020-2021”.
