Notes from Counseling Services
Counselors will continue working on identifying and contacting students needing credit recovery as well as continuing to write recommendation letters for those seniors who have requested them.
Seniors should be finalizing their college application information, especially those with November 1 deadlines, making sure test scores for SAT (College Board) and ACT (StudentACT.org) are sent directly to colleges from those websites, as the school does not send official test scores. Scores should be sent when students register to take the test or before taking the test, not after scores arrive to ensure the colleges receive the scores in time for application due dates.
Don’t forget the FAFSA Workshop is this Thursday, September 26th starting at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
Students grades 9-12 are encouraged to complete overdue assignments on Naviance this week. Take time to review your Career Exploration and Interest Inventory as well. Grade 10-12 students may want to consider taking the ASVAB test being given October 3rd to see more options for career opportunities after graduation and college majors which may suit their interests. See Mrs. Maloney in the College and Career Center or the SVHS website for the ASVAB permission form.

Seneca Valley Students Taking AP Classes 2019-20 School Year
Beginning in the 2019-20 school year, the AP® Program is introducing new resources and processes designed to help students earn college credit and placement.
Here’s what students and families need to know:
• This year AP has moved exam registration to the fall.
• Students will need to register and pay for AP Exams by October 15, 2019 . AP Exams will still be given in May.
• The exam fee isn’t changing. However, there will be a $40 fee for late registration and a $40 cancelation or unused exam fee.
• Exam fees may be paid online or in person at the Seneca Valley financial office. Detailed payment information will be sent out next
week.
• Students will get personalized feedback through new digital tools that provide daily support for every AP classroom. Their teachers will be able to track their performance throughout the year using monthly personal progress checks.
To get ready for the coming school year, please encourage your student to sign up for a College Board account. All College Board programs are connected through one account, so if your student created one for the PSAT/NMSQT®, SAT®, or College Board Opportunity Scholarships, they’re all set. They’ll just need to have their username and password available.

Student Rights and Responsibilities and Code of Conduct (English and Spanish)
Student Rights and Responsibilities and Code of Conduct (English and Spanish)
In order to ensure a safe, productive, and positive learning environment, MCPS publishes two documents that help students, parents/guardians, and staff understand school rules and regulations; the expectations for student conduct; and the possible consequences for violating the rules. A Student’s Guide to Rights and Responsibilities is an overview of the rights and responsibilities students enjoy in MCPS and a summary of the laws and regulations that affect students.
The MCPS Code of Conduct provides an overview of discipline procedures and protocols and the range of consequences students could face for violating various policies, regulations, and rules. The guide also discusses the MCPS philosophy toward discipline.
All families received copies of these documents and are encouraged to review them with their child(ren). The documents are available online at
www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/students/rights/.

Late to School
Among the most significant challenges we face as a staff is managing students who are late to school and/or late to class. This has become a chronic issue, not just at Seneca, but across the country. We have a responsibility to address this behavior early and directly because not doing so allows your child to miss important instructional time, and disrupts others' learning experiences when students arrive late to class.
