Winter Wonderland!
Now that winter weather is officially upon us, this is just a friendly reminder to send your learner to school with their winter snow gear to use during recess. Here are some must knows for families when preparing your learners for recess this winter:
- We will have outdoor recess as long as the temperature is at least 10 degrees with the windchill.
- We will not go out if it there is rain or freezing rain.
- We will not allow learners to stay indoors for recess. All children will go out for recess when weather permits.
- We will not go out if the playground is not plowed.
- To play in the snow, learners must have boots, snow pants, and mittens/gloves.
- We recommend a change of socks and pants to stay in the locker at school in case they get too wet.
- Let your teacher know if you want to have the snow gear go back and forth between school and home. Please pack the gear in a separate bag/backpack as their main backpack will remain at school.
- We will send snow gear home on weekends in case learners want to play outdoors over the weekends.
If you are interested in helping our Bobcats out, we are always looking for winter play equipment. We are always looking for donations of children's shovels, sleds, Snow Discs, roll-up sleds, etc. We do NOT allow snowballs, so as cool as those snowball makers are, we can't use those at school.
Reach out to your child's teacher or the front office if you have any questions,

Family Reading Video
Please take about 15 minutes to review this video about how Nixon is working with learners to improve reading, the goals we have set as a building, and how you can support your children at home to help them meet our building goals.
