SHISD Mid-Week Message
Weekly Superintendent's Message for Spring Hill ISD
Spirit of Texas
Hurricane Harvey hit close to home to me as a native Houstonian. I have lived through Alicia and Ike, the evacuation mess of Katrina, and have seen many floods from tropical storms. My parents still call Houston home and were under mandatory evacuation days after the storm had passed, but they were some of the lucky ones. I have watched the news and talked with friends in the midst of this storm hoping and praying the rivers will not continue to rise and cause more flooding. I have talked with friends who lost everything and countless more that suffered flooding.
Although the rain, flooding, and damage from this storm are historic, equally historic is the statewide support for all Texans affected. The story of help and sacrifice has grown to outweigh the news of the storm itself. The video above is just one example of a city and a state coming together to help their fellow Texans. I was so proud of our students and community as they have gone out of their way to help and donate needed supplies.
I was also proud of Texas public schools in the path of the storm opening their schools as shelters and opening their cafeterias so neighborhoods and families could get three meals a day. As of this week, more than 200 school districts and charter schools statewide canceled or delayed classes and many will not start school until next week. As of Monday, Houston ISD has 22 schools that are damaged enough not to open anytime soon. Estimates of the number of homes damaged in Texas is over 500,000.
In the midst of all of the destruction, public schools will open and provide a safe place for students to come, eat, and begin the process of returning to normal. The recovery effort will be immense and I know that when additional help is needed, the SH community will rise to the task. God bless Texas! -Steve Snell

Tennis keeps winning
Here are the tennis results this week:
In a rain shortened match, the Panthers played John Tyler Saturday. The match starts with doubles play and ends with singles play. After doubles were over, SH was in the lead 5-2. The rain kept getting closer to us, unfortunately, they had to stop when we were up 9-4, with Kavin Patel was a few points away from getting us to 10. I guess you could say we won since we were winning before the rain came. With that, we are 5-1.
Panthers match against Center was rescheduled for September 30th due to rain.
The next match is September 7th against Henderson at home.
Lady Panther Volleyball Wins in 4 over Mt. Pleasant
