Veterans Day Program
To register a veteran for the event, please sign up HERE by noon Thursday, November 7th. This will give us time to order food AND to order t-shirts. All students with attending vets will receive a t-shirt from Spectrum!
To submit a question for Senator Garten, go HERE. Students and staff are encouraged to ask questions about his school years in Scottsburg, his time in the service, his experience as a small business owner, and his experience as a state senator. All students submitting a legitimate question will receive a Warrior Point!
Dodgeball Kudos
Thank you to all of the players, event workers, and attending student and parent spectators for a wonderful Fourth Annual SMS Fall Dodgeball Tournament! It was a huge success. We played 54 games in 2.5 hours and crowned Full Send as the event champions! Full Send will face a fierce teacher team at our holiday assembly in December. They are also winning highly sought-after tournament champion t-shirts which they will forever wear with pride!
Proceeds from the event go to the SMS Athletic Uniform Replacement fund. Thanks to all of the teachers and coaches that helped us hold the event!
The Giving Season!
Since 1950, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF funds have helped save and improve children's lives around the world. UNICEF works in 190 countries and reaches millions of children with immunizations, education, health care, nutrition, safe water and sanitation, emergency relief, and more — with the help of your support!
Kiwanis International and UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) joined forces to help eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) worldwide. This historic initiative, called The Eliminate Project, aims to put an end to this cruel, centuries-old disease. It will also help pave the way for the delivery of other lifesaving services, such as clean water, nutrition and other vaccines. UNICEF USA and Kiwanis International are working to raise $110 million to provide women with lifesaving vaccines to protect them and their future newborns. SMS Builders Club will be collecting money this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We will have a table in the hallway before school. Each team will have a box, so please donate as much as you can. The team with the most money collected will earn an "involved' Hero point for everyone on that team. Our goal is to raise $500 to help the project. Your donation helps buy supplies and lifesaving services. Help save babies! Give coins or cash this week. Thank you!
SHS New Tech World Perspectives Class Project
Did you know that Myanmar, a country in southeastern Asia, now holds the spot for the longest on-going civil war in history (70 years to be exact)? The SHS New Tech World Perspectives class has been investigating this issue and the consequences of it on the people living there.
The class is partnering with the non-profit organization, Baht Babies, to provide this school in Myanmar with life-saving first aid kits. The goal is to raise $700.
To reach this goal, SHS NT students are partnering with Java Station 56 on the square in Scottsburg to raise some funds. On November 10 from 1-4 pm, the class will host a “Baht Chocolate Fundraiser” (baht is the currency in Myanmar). A portion of every Java Station sale will help the group reach their goal! There will also be a raffle, games, a coloring contest, a promotional drink and the coffee shops' amazing food and drinks available. Please come help SHS NT make a difference in the world. Spread the word!

Quick Notes
Thursday is Round 1 of the National Geographic Geography Bee. Students may volunteer for the challenge by taking a paper/pencil test over geographic knowledge during homeroom that day. The top performers will be invited to compete in the school-wide bee later this semester. That winner will take a written test to try to qualify for the state bee. That winner will compete in the national bee in Washington, DC. That winner will win huge scholarship money and lots of street cred. That winner could be YOU! Good luck to all participants and thanks to our social studies teachers for operating the event!
Also on Thursday, we are hosting an Indiana School Boards Association regional legal training in the SMS Great Room from 12:30-4:00. School board members and administrators from surrounding counties will be joining us. Thank you for respecting these visitors by being quiet as you pass the Great Room that afternoon and after school!
Don't forget to register for Archery at the link on the Canvas Community page! Archery practice starts Tuesday, November 12th in the east gym from 3-4:30 PM.
